"This wireless router has been our worst nightmare."
on by BonkersTheClownPros Well ... it is a wireless router. When it's working it does do what wireless routers are supposed to do I guess ...
Cons This thing drops connectivity to everything many times on any given day. That is the only consistent thing about it.
Summary The problems we've had with the DIR-657 are apparently due to assigning the same IP to multiple devices. Even after reserving/assigning the IP to each specific device (D-Link version of static IP I presume) in the router settings and upgrading the firmware via the D-Link website, it still keeps happening. Connectivity drops several times a day. Sometimes it's just some of the devices in the house, other times its all of them. There doesn't seem to be any particular pattern to it. The D-Link doesn't discriminate between hard-wired or wireless, this router drops all connections equally. The router must be rebooted repeatedly every single day, and sometimes rebooting doesn't help matters either. Any conceivable trick that I could find, I've tried.
Maybe we ended up with a lemon ... but OH WHAT A LEMON!!! This router has cured me of ever buying D-Link again. My advice? Don't buy a D-Link period.
