"Works great" on by kyeo138
Pros: Selectable signal strength, N-compatible
Cons: Menu may be confusing to new users
Summary: Got this router for my home network, and have my Nintendo DS, Wii, PC, and laptops all chugging away on it without a problem.
Since I live in an apartment, I like the ability to lower the signal strength (even though I have WPA/MAC address blocking on).
Haven't had a single problem with this router yet. -
"Poor distamce between brick walls" on by drspoons
Pros: Fast when in range
Cons: No Range boost between walls
Summary: Test it properly for Range through brick walls not offices with cheap stud walls !.
Hi All,
I'm Getting very confused with all the 802.11n New router hype. They are using words like "Range Booster" "Max Range" , I'm sorry but I have just purchased a Dlink DSL-2740b Router (N650) & DWL-142 USB adaptor.
I purchased this because when using my laptop in the back room the signal was a bit week and dropped because of the two brick walls between, it was only 10 metres away.
So I listened to the hype read the review sites, impressed with the big range claims.
Plugged it all in easy to connect to network & set-up , I removed the on board driver to the laptop and installed USB driver. Rebooted,
Crap ! the Speed and connectivity was the same as the internal 802.11g card my face dropped along with the connection.
I contacted Dlink UK technical support in India they tell me "its a new technology in test" I replied "I don't remember reading that on the box " they say the 2.4 ghz transmitter output is the same as 802.11g due to regulation. So it has no more power to get through brick walls only how it sends signal.
I did not deny if I put the laptop in the same room a router it probably would be faster but I'm buying it for connectively not speed I only have a 8mbps Dsl line and I can't even get that in my back room.
I proceeded to try it on a Vista Desktop, had to download Vista driver as usual. exactly the same
Dlink say nothing they can do , run a cable !
In-conclusion : Will all the review sites check the distance claims in different buildings types please , because I think you will be surprised about there claims.

"Horrible Customer Support" on by sgtjosh
Pros: Plenty of Features
Cons: Setup was a mess
Summary: I purchased this router, because it had the most festures available at the store I visited. USB port for storage, gigabit connection...etc. Ran the setup as instructions provided, but it would not recognize my connection (sattelite...live in rural East San Diego County.) Tech support was horrible. I spent 3 hours over 2 calls with techs with subpar english skills (they claim their call center is in Fountain Valley CA. My money is on Bangladesh...either that or they import their techies.) After the first call, I was let go with no wireless set up and limited internet connectivity. After the second call, I was let go with no working internet and no wireless. I was advised to call my ISP...so sad too bad. I had to get my internet connection up on my own. I took the router back and bought the Lynksys WRT350N. I set that up and was running in 10 min...No hassles...NO problems...No dropped connections...Great range.

"Best I Could Find" on by Donutboy808
Pros: Excellent Range, Great Stablity
Cons: Still not up to par w/ Belkins Pre-N Router
Summary: I was looking for a draft-n router for my house. After trying Netgear, Belkin, and Buffalo I finally found this gem. The other routers would constantly drop the signal or had horrible range. If your looking for a draft-n router... purchase the D-link. Trust me you will not regrete it.
