"WORST RANGE EVER!"on by AC413
Pros Easy-to-use interface for non-techie users
Decent looking apps/features for parents wanting to control net usage
Cons 1. WORST RANGE EVER ENCOUNTERED
2. For technologically-inclined users the router control interface is overly simple, limited and offers almost no real control over your set up.
Summary I set up a CNET account just to warn people about the range issue - look up this router on google, you will see plenty of reviews that mention the 2.4Ghz range is absolutely awful, a thin wall is likely to halve the signal.
I tested this against a £20/$35 Linksys E900 router (an extremely basic router with almost no features of interest) and in a room 2 walls away from the router, the MUCH cheaper router gave a much better signal than this one!
If you have really thin walls/just want it to cover a small area and don't want all the techie control this could be great, but otherwise it's absolutely horrible at this price.
"The Router From Hell"on by kbpm3k
Pros Nice design body wise
Cons Streaming is bad doesn't stay connected and system changes without me knowing. Parental control, priority list always shut off on its on.... Channel with change on its on too...
Summary Stay away from Cisco Linksys system like getting poison ivy without relief.
Tech isn't helpful, 3hours on phone repeating same stuff to do to it to make it work.... Plus they want you to buy more tech service and or a new router.... REALLY !!!!!! Lets fix the one I got within a year first then build my confidence to want another. Although this would make 2 linksys.... 2 strikes and Im out of patiences. Trying Netgear I hope I get some relief.... If not what is next? Any suggestions
Pros The online interface is really nice, clear and has an overall good logical menu structure.
I have had 5 different machines streaming video from a connected USB drive, there was very little if any disruption throughout my house on both 2.4GHz & 5GHz.
Cons Transferring big files to an attached hard drive is slow and does stop others from video streaming.
Make sure the router is demilitarized in your modem and also make sure the DNS is manually input or problems might occur.
Summary Additional: The online Twonky interface is a cool feature.
This router is really good, seems very stable has not crashed or failed since I got it.
I would definitely shop around for this one. Prices in New Zealand vary by $100 so you could save yourself some money by doing the research first.
Pros NONE, ZERO, NADA
Summary Absolutely horrific. The worst piece of equipment I've ever owned. Range of the 5ghtz band is laughable. Had to reboot the router ever few days just to access the admin page. Then the Reset button broke off. Was no fast on 2.4ghtz than my 4 yr old router. The 5ghtz band doesn't work 20ft from the router. And needed to be rebooted daily. Then hardware broke
Pros For wired products, this router works fine.
If you are using wifi devices in same room, speed/throughput good. Once you leave the room, everything slows to a crawl. The only area it works ok downstairs is right below office.
Cons Range is horrific. Brought in Fluke AirCheck wifi-tester to monitor range, wireless channels (signals etc) in our 2 level townhouse. After changing our wifi channels (1, 6, 11), speed/range did not improve at all.
Summary If you plan to use wifi in same room, this product will work fine. If you plan to use wifi in another room, expect poor performance.
