"Kills my Nest, range unimpressive"2.0 starson by DrDieder
Pros: You can access it from anywhere? I guess that's positive if it were my parents' router.
Cons: Dumbed down interface is so basic that many needed features are not configurable. No "classic" interface to fall back on.
Summary: This router was purchased with the specific goals of future proofing and getting more range/speed for streaming to the living room. I HATE the new cloud interface. Sure, it's pretty, but all of the gritty, down to business settings that routers had for more granular setup are gone in favor of this pretty but dumbed down UI. Apple has done a similar oversimplification with the airport extreme, and so the switch was from one frustration to the other. Since switching, the router is not implementing some power management settings in the tcp/ip standard correctly (PWM) and so it is keeping the Wifi connection on the Nest active at all times, draining the battery until it disconnects. I'm going to have to take this aggravating router back to the store. At least I got it locally. Also, don't be fooled by the promise of "apps." There are about 4 of them, and they are all doing functions that should be built in by default. None of them solve my needs for advanced features either.
