"After 1 hour with Comcast and 3.5 hours and 2 routers, I could only get 5 mins of internet use" on by scottt6521

    Pros: I can't see any

Cons: The product is unstable. Linksys obviously released this hardware, app code and firmware before they were ready

Summary: Please choose a different product. This one is not ready for consumer use. I am a Consumer Products Electrical Engineer who has set up many many wireless routers. This one is just not good. What is worse is my 30 days are up for an Amazon return and Linksys will only replace the router, no refunds. I did that once and will not do it again. I am trying to get a different router from linksys. yikes.

"If works, works well. Technical Service is bad!!!!" on by snitey

Pros: Great Wireless Distance, Good Router

    Cons: Real bad technical support!!!!!

Summary: If you get this router, beware, if it has a problem and you need technical support, you might as well throw it in the trash. Mine worked great for 3 weeks and it started to drop packets on the internet side. I would have to reboot to get it to work like it was suppose too, daily. Contacted linksys support, they are a joke. They can't understand me and I can't understand them. They had me doing all types of changes, wanted me to lower my line speed, all kinds of crazy changes and it worked fine for the first 3 weeks before this happened. Now, I'm stuck with a brick that they won't replace, they don't honor their warranties. I feel the techs give this bogus answers so that they can get you off their line if they can't find the problem. All in all, the router is a good product if it works, but their technical support is really bad. You would think since it is a division of Cisco, that they would have a good technical support team, NOT!!

"Good range, WIFI stability issues, no FW updates" on by mafj

Pros: Good range, signal goes through walls.
Easy to set up and get running.
Saves space standing in vertical position.
    NUmber of WIFI security options.

Cons: WIFI not stable and router often needs rebooting.
Poor transfer over WIFI (max 2.1MB/s on 54mbit connection)
No firmware updates (public ones as Linksys hides it for themselves).
    No 3rd party firmware.
    No advanced options

Summary: For home use might be OK as well as for the price I paid (18quid with delivery), but the need for rebooting is quite annoying (once several days).
Linksys produced new firmware versions (up to 1.18), however, never released it for users and the only version you can get from its support is 1.01, which is older then the one shipped with devices (1.04). So there is no hope you will get stability problems solved ever. Furthermore third party firmwares does not run on it.
Its range is the only bright side.

"WRT54GR is JUNK" on by dieselandroses

    Pros: Looks nice

Cons: Last 2 replacement unit have not worked properly right out of the box.
Software takes a minimum of 2 tries to locate the router

Summary: I dislike the product because it does not work. I am not sure if it because the internal components are of poor quality or the unit was assembled improperly.
Transfer rates on our DSL line start at 5.74 kb/sec and drop down to 14 kb/sec. I am unable to open my GMail account unless I use the "Basic" setting for slow connections.
When we replace the WRT54GR with our backup unit, made by a different company, transfer rates go back to 685 kb/sec average.

"Linksys fails (yet again)" on by Cortoza

    Pros: Hardware design

Cons: Bad firmware with no recent updates available

Summary: The online downloadable version of the firmware is 1.01 (which has not been updated online for several years(!!!). There is apparently a version 1.18 (in 2008) yet no updates are made publicly available. This router has many problems ie. slow wireless connection, dropping connections, its administrative webpages not working correctly or not even responding.

Suggestion: do not waste your money on Linksys (=Cisco). I've once bought a Linksys ADSL Modem/Router which worked great, but several other wireless cable routers from Linksys were complete rubbish. Result: fed up with Linksys (Cisco), and will not even consider buying from them again.
