"This is a Joke!" on by Lazer2555

Pros: MIMO Technology, Further Range then the WRT54GS, nice Design.

Cons: Expensive, Not as good as the Belkin or D-Link Pre-N MIMO, not as feature full as Netgear routers.

Summary: This is a funny product. Why i say this is because it's a Linksys fan product. It retails for $200, while the Belkin and D-Link Pre-N MIMO retail at $150. It's Range is horrid for a MIMO Product. I have all 3, the Belkin, D-Link, and now Linksys SRX, MIMO routers and right now i'm using the Belkin MIMO as an Access Point conntected to my Netgear 4-Port Router. Performance wise, lets just say this i went a hole block further down with my D-Link and Belkin Pre-N with the signal at strong while the Linksys Pre-N dropped already. And this is me using an Internal Intel 802.11 B/G card in my labtop. If you are rich and want to waste money on the WRT54GX and experience less of the technology for more of the price then enjoy. If you are smart you will save $50 and go out and get yourself a D-Link or Belkin Pre-N MIMO Router and have a better router with more money in your pocket. Linksys used to be my favorite back in the day when Wired and 802.11B was out. Since 802.11G, Linksys is nothing but a dissapointment. Some companies you would never imagine to be on top like Belkin and Buffalo products are better then Linksys. Simply put it, this Router is not worth it. The sadest part is that a Non-MIMO product from Netgear, the a/b/g wireless router outperformed the Linksys SRX.

I used my Dlink 624 MIMO with much happiness on my SBC DSL line (3Mbps). I had one problem with my VPN over wireless connections that their support couldn't figure out, until I did, switch from UDP to TCP for the connection. Now to the point of my posting. I switched to 8Mbps Earthlink DSL which requires PPPoE authentication and the Dlink kept loosing internet connectivity about every 6-10 hours. I'd constantly have to reset the Dlink. Very frustrating. We tried everything, the Covad tech even came out and checked the DSL line, and all my local phone runs. Nothing. I noticed that the Earthlink home networking router is a Linksys so on a hunch I got the SRX... Whallah! No more dropped lines. Most excellent. That alone is enough for me to keep this puppy! It gets good distance and speed and most important, it never hiccups...

Everything I have read about MIMO and 802.11N indicates that for good performance you must have a mimo capable device at both ends of the connection, and until the standard is ratified that card for best performance should be made by the same vendor as made your router. I am not certain that your test performed with an internal intel 802.11G chipset is valid.

Kevin

I have Vonage VOIP. Don't even try Belkin if you want to use your Vonage. Nothing but problems. I don't think this guy ever used a WRT54gx. Sounds like he just read the reviews. This router Rocks!
