"Upgrade your firmware!" on by scottydawg
Pros: Fast, good range, nice package
Cons: Setup, Telephone support
Summary: Once set up this seems to work great with good range and speed but the setup was very difficult. After being unable to access the router from the web browser I called tech support and they took me through a series of steps to make the router work. After almost a half hour of resets, power downs and more resets I was able to setup the router but it still would not function properly. I asked if a firmware upgrade was available that might help but the tech support agent said no and told me the only way to to solve my problem was to call my ISP. I decided to check for a firmware upgrade on the Linksys website just in case, there was one available and after the update the router worked perfectly.

"Linksys quality - works great" on by nayomie1
Pros: works great once set up properly
Cons: setup CD not helpful, price
Summary: I had a Linksys broadband router for several years and it always worked like a charm. This is the main reason I chose Linksys again when I switched to a wireless network.
This router works great and I expect to get as many happy years out of it as from my old router. The problem was that the set up was not that simple. The installation CD lacked clarity and as with most new products, there is no detailed user's manual in the box (like in the old days!) - you have to go online and look at the documentation. But, that's not possible when you're in the middle of set up. If I had been smart, I would have downloaded the .pdf file first.
But, all is well that ends well. I had an annoyingly long wait on phone support, but found later that live chat with tech support was very helpful. I found out that I really didn't know what I was doing during my first failed attempt to set up. (Yes, I had to set my old router back up first so I had internet access) But, once I understood how to create a 10 digit hexadecimal key to secure my network, things worked great and my second attempt was completed in minutes. There is also a very helpful article (#946) on the Linksys tech support page on connecting non-Linksys adapters to a Linksys network.
The router works great - where it loses points in in the poor documenation and the price. Other brands that use the new MIMO technology cost less, but I like Linksys and don't mind paying a little more. -
"great product, super fast!" on by coreyd
Pros: incredible range, incredible speed
Cons: not the easiest set up
Summary: this router is great when coupled with the wmp54gx desktop pci adapter. i routinely get speeds over 2 Mbps, which is the same that i get from the desktop that i have hardwired to the router. essentially, with this combination, the limiting factor has become the speed of the incoming cable signal rather than the wireless capabilities. i use the router/adapter combo for xbox online gaming and have no problems. the network wasnt super easy to set up, but after a short amount of troubleshooting, i had it going. would recommend to anyone!

"Disappointed, could not get to function reliably" on by hwegener
Pros: Works sometimes
Cons: Not reliable
Summary: Worked extensivly with online support but could not get the unit stable. Tried beta firmware, everything. We used it in a enviroment of approx 15 wireless stations and had a server plugged into the hub protion. They would constantly drop connections with the wireless clients to the point after 8 or so hours, no wireless client could connect. We replaced the WRT54GX2 with a WRT54GX4 and our problems were solved. Linksys was happy to replace the units with the same model (which we both proved useless, linksys support and myself) Linksys support even recommended replacing the WRT54GX2 with a different model, but Linksys RMA refused. Nor will they refund my money. I have 4 WRT54GX2 for sale if anyone is interested?

"Does everything expected even at long range" on by UKOH
Pros: Fast, reliable connection even 300 feet away
Cons: I only tried basic internet connection. No VOIP etc. I cannot comment on more advanced uses
Summary: I have been using this product for more than a month now and have had fast, reliable, wireless connectivity even up to 300 feet away. It has dropped me twice in the entire month!
Although the signal strenth drops from "excellent" to "low" rapidly as distance increases this has not caused any increase in dropped signal.
I highly recommend this product for basic internet connectivity but have not used it for other applications (VOIP etc.) so cannot comment on more advanced usage.
