"Linksys quality - works great"
4.0 starson by nayomie1Pros: works great once set up properly
Cons: setup CD not helpful, price
Summary: I had a Linksys broadband router for several years and it always worked like a charm. This is the main reason I chose Linksys again when I switched to a wireless network.
This router works great and I expect to get as many happy years out of it as from my old router. The problem was that the set up was not that simple. The installation CD lacked clarity and as with most new products, there is no detailed user's manual in the box (like in the old days!) - you have to go online and look at the documentation. But, that's not possible when you're in the middle of set up. If I had been smart, I would have downloaded the .pdf file first.
But, all is well that ends well. I had an annoyingly long wait on phone support, but found later that live chat with tech support was very helpful. I found out that I really didn't know what I was doing during my first failed attempt to set up. (Yes, I had to set my old router back up first so I had internet access) But, once I understood how to create a 10 digit hexadecimal key to secure my network, things worked great and my second attempt was completed in minutes. There is also a very helpful article (#946) on the Linksys tech support page on connecting non-Linksys adapters to a Linksys network.
The router works great - where it loses points in in the poor documenation and the price. Other brands that use the new MIMO technology cost less, but I like Linksys and don't mind paying a little more.
