Pros: Blazing speeds @ 5 GHz. USB Connection. Range. Gigabit ports.

Cons: USB has to be in Fat32 format. Bad Documentation. LELA.

Summary: This router is not for everyone. Setup for optimal performace is no the easiest for the beginner. Having said that, this router is the best I've seen.

    Tips:
1)Don't use Lela for Setup (ok for monitoring after setup)
2)Besure to check your wireless N adapter to use 5 GHz. Update drivers if using Intel.
3)Besure your usb drive to be attached is in Fat32 format. Don't bother with creating shares. Just plug it in and map to \\'routerip address'\default.

If you are experiencing signal drops on 2.4 and 5 gig bands, change security from wpa2 to wpa...Kudos to a guy on Linksys forums.

I was almost ready cry out loud that this router is terrible. Had it for almost 6 months and recently has been getting more and more frustrated with it.

But the last line about WPA2 has changed my world. I've put in MAC filtering and ditched WPA2 on 5 GHz band. Now works like a charm.

I recently installed this router (v2 of the hardware with the latest firmware) and have no problem. However, I do NOT use mixed mode on the wireless. I put the 5Ghz wireless into N mode and the 2.4Ghz wireless into G mode. I use WPA2 for both. Previous router was getting older (about 10 years old) and was dropping wireless connections. This one has been rock solid. In spite of all the warnings, the 5Ghz wireless reaches upstairs (through several walls) without any problem.

I recommend a couple extra tools to help. inSSIDer (from http://www.metageek.net/products/inssider) and WallWatcher (from http://www.wallwatcher.com/). inSSIDer can help sort potential channel interference. WallWatcher helps log the router activity. (Define the WRT610N as a router that uses IPtables).

I agree with you. Best wireless access point I have used. I have years of IT experience and I love this device. I am using WPA2 and do not have the disconnect problem. Loaded latest firmware and changed some settings, now this product rocks, but again I am not using it as a router.

Original Post was on first firmware. Firmware update solved all issues I was Having... bobdodavis - if you understood that it's been proven that 5 ghz frequencies don't go through walls as well as 2.4 ghz, then you probably would have saved yourself some cash.

It's not a noob problem and you're not a genius - no offense. Glad it's working with your specific setups, but for it's intended purpose of 5 GHz N being used at the same time with 2.4 GHz mixed mode, it has some serious issues. Feel free to check out all the complaints on the Linksys forums http://forums.linksys.com/linksys/search?submitted=true&q=wrt610n

Switching to WPA is not really a fix and is a terrible idea. You shouldn't have to sacrifice security in order for this product to work. If the 610n supports WPA2 (and it boasts that it does), then it should do just that. Plus, if Linksys is advertising better range and less traffic on the 5 GHz N range, then that should be true too. I found that the range was abysmal on 5ghz using N- perhaps 25 feet through 2 walls which is far less than my current wrt54g. The higher frequency actually means less distance over the regular 2.4 GHz band (check out smallnetbuilder.com if you believe otherwise).is ironed out.

I just hooked up a Western Digital external HDD formatted in NTFS and it worked fine.
