  • "Great so far, wish it had usb 3.0"
    on by droolin

Pros I'm happy., Easy set up, dual band. At most there are only 2 of us that access it at a given time other then my phone. Neither of us are heavy media streamers. So, works for me.

Cons usb 2.0 for network storage, really wsih that was usb 3.0. Want to hook up a tera drive.

Summary I'm happy. I was forced into buying a router because my other router just quit powering up. To many power spikes killed it. Even with the router being plugged into a UPS. The new router is faster and also has network storage capabilities which I didn't have before. Even if it isn't usb 3.0.
    Works for me.

  • "I totally agree with Cnet's review"
    on by acm100

Pros It's super fast and has great range. I have lots of devices on it at all times but there's minimal lag.

Cons The network storage performance is pretty slow but it doesn't bother me much since I have my backups run when I'm asleep.

Summary I would recommend this router to anyone with a lot of devices, especially with ones that can go on the 5Ghz band. I don't have many but the 2.4 one is really fast anyway.

  • "Impossible to set up."
    on by danmax67

Pros Seems to have decent signal strength

Cons Cannot get internet connectivity. Box didn't come with installation disc (even though it said it would be included). Cable company spent 2 days in my house and still can't get the thing to work. Obnoxious light.

Summary I changed cable companies. They installed my internet with this router and simply could not get it to work. It gets a signal, but no internet connectivity. They spent a total of about 10 hours trying to get it to work properly. They had all kinds of customer support people on the phone and taking over my computer remotely, but it still does not work. They even opened a new box and tried another one of these routers. It was very frustrating.

  • "Poor quality control, poor tech support"
    on by dasvt

Pros Well, it did have a strong internet connection, but that's kind of beside the point, because that's all it did right.

Cons Many, at least with this unit. Difficult to set up, could not create home network, erratic performance, loses setup, drops connections.

Summary It seems that quality control is low with this unit. I bought because of positive user reviews on vendor's website. Learned that many if not most were for earlier Netgear ;product. Narrowing down, I found that quite a few people have similar issue to mine, indicating poor quality control. I do not need a router to get internet access for my computers; I got it to create a home network and interconnectivity. After struggling with a setup utility that kept kicking me back to an earlier stage, and repeatedly asked me to re-login, I finally installed manually. Eventually, I was able to set up the home network. Then the router lost the settings, something it has since done several times. At best, it behaves erratically, flickering in and out. The only feature that I can count on is the internet connection, but even that drops drops off from time to time. Difficult when I am interacting or entering data.. Tech support useless; they seem over their head when it is an issue (like a defective unit) tht is not in their script. They had me going in circles for nearly 2 hours until I called a stop to it. Give thm credit for trying, but it would have been unnecessary if they would have listened to me (Iam female, and have experienced this before with some overseas tech support).. Am retuning the unti and replacing it, with terpidation, with another but simpler Netgear product, and keeping my fingers crossed. Thank goodness I am dealing wiith a vendor with good customer service, because it appearts that this is not an uncommon expericne with Netgear.

  • "Easy setup and great wireless range and speed"
    on by mvjlittler

Pros Easy setup, fast speeds on both 2.4ghz and 5ghz

Cons None for me. For those that list the glue light on the top as a con, read the manual and press the dome - switches OFF the blue light.

Summary Setup was easy. Unplug old stuff, connect new, plug in modem then router and login to routerlogin.net and setup wireless. I had the mac address filter and WPA2 passwords setup really quickly and the speed is much, much better than my old Linksys wrt54gp2 9 (good router but it is 54mbps and 5+ years old now). All devices receive strong signal and very quick speeds. Router is on ground level and laptop and desktop both receive strong signal in basement.
Overall very happy with this router, a very good upgrade. I like that it sends wireless in both 2.4 and 5ghz at the same time. I'm sure I will also like the guest network feature when I need it.
