"Known Issue with Firmware - Product is Defective" on by TakenAdvantageOf

Pros: If you are only using one device at a time linked to this Wireless Router you can pull 270mbs through several walls.

Cons: Net Gear is aware of a known Firmware failure in this product. When you connect more than one device to the router it will intermittently drop your signal and disconnect every device on the router. Very rude customer service in India.

Summary: Net Gear is knowingly selling you a defective product. DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT. Save yourself a lot of time and money if you are going to attempt to connect more than one device to this router as it will drop your signal every 5 - 30 minutes with no known firmware upgrade to resolve the issue. The tech support will not admit to this and will make you re-install the network several times. Ask for the United States customer service department in CA if you hope to get any resolution to the problems you will experience with this defective equipment. First time buyer of Net Gear - and my Last Time as a buyer of Net Gear products. Who on this Earth sells product that they know is defective with no known way of resolving the issue? They cost me a Saturday and a work day and a couple of evenings of trouble shooting a problem that they are already aware of.

I had the same issues with dropped signals. All I did was update the router's firmware and it works like a charm now (1 Laptop, Xbox, PS3, ipod, and other visitors to my house). Try updating the firmware.

I bought this unit from Staples because I have had Netgear products in the past and they all worked great.

This router is a different story. It would randomly drop internet connection a few times every hour. At first I thought it was the POWER going to the unit so I moved it to another outlet. Only coming here on this forum did I find out this problem has been with this router for over 2 YEARS???

Why hasnt Netgear fixed it? It is stil selling in the stores!!

Changing to WPA2 fixed the problem temporarily but I was unable to log into the router from older laptops. WHY DOES IT SAY WPA and WEP and offer you an option for WPA+WPA2 when you have to WORK AROUND THE PROBLEM and use wpa2? This is also posted in the drivers download section. HELL NETGEAR KNOWS about this problem but doesnt fix it??!!!!

NETGEAR SHOULD BE ASHAMED OF THEMSELVES!!

What version of the firmware are you {where you} on? My router has not had a reset in over 4 months. I have a Mac using the "N" side, two Windows laptops on the "G" side, and two Vonage adapters using seperate ports on the router itself. I addition, I have an eight port fast switch with 3 PC's and a network based printer.I also use the Cisco VPN client but I had to add my own port configuration to make it work. I agree with you that Netgear has a reputation with putting routers, etc. to market before they should but I know other router vendors such as Linksys and Belkin have the same problem. I am at version 26 of the firmware by the way.
