"Not an improvement over my older router."3.0 starson by Hufmybone
Pros: Very easy to set up and manage over the Linksys router and its accompanying software it is replacing.
Cons: 5 ghz band is worthless! No range whatsoever. 2.4 ghz fair but not great over the Linksys WRT 100 it is replacing.
Summary: Not a significant improvement over my older WRT-100 Linksys router. Software and setup nice to be sure. But in terms of performance and range of signal; mediocre. I have a 2-story house with a basement. Needless to say there are walls involved. The router is on the 2nd floor simply because that is where the cable gateway is and my home office. I have 2 Xboxes in the basement that had no major issues with signal reception with the old router. So I figured I would upgrade the router get dual band, faster speed, and better reception. Not! The 2.4 ghz is about the same. The 5 ghz is barely detectable on the 1st floor. Basement? Forget it. I updated all drivers etc on my laptop and barely a signal.
Look if you don't have a router and need one, this is one is pretty good. If you have a router that provides very good 2.4 reception, save your money this router will be no real improvement. I am seriously considering reconnecting the Linksys router. If it weren't such a pain to do I would.
Bottom-line this is not a true upgrade over anything available in the last few years.
