"Solid performance but has bugs"3.5 starson by mtbinva
Pros: I like the configuration options and the ease of which I could do DHCP reservations. 2.4 GHz speed and distance impressive. No issues with software set up, on a Mac and Win7.
Cons: 5.0 GHz range is not what I expected. I was also surprised by the line of site only operation of the 5.0GHz range. Shared storage a bit of pain, slow, but works well.
Summary: Bottom line is this is a good WiFi router and is consistent. The guest networking feature did not work for me, but in all fairness, I only spent 5 minutes with it, since I did not need that function. The realistic usage of the 5GHz and the speed is within 50ft before the connection drops, I was bit disappointed in that result, but it's nice to not be tethered while in my office is located. In there it is fast enough to game with, but start moving away and the speed and signal drops quickly.
The 2.4GHz was on the other hand VERY impressive in it's range and speed. So as far as that is concerned, it far outperformed, at least for me all the other comparable routers I have tried. Setting up security was a breeze and is fairly tight.
The USB storage is not as intuitive as I would have liked to have seen, and for a beginner can be a daunting task to set up.
Conclusion, one of the best out there in this range, but needs to be tweaked by Netgear's engineers in the next firmware update. If your on the fence about this purchase, don't worry, because overall you will not be disappointed.
