  • "Lots of nice hardware, but numerous flawed features."
    on by LawtonAJ

Pros 7 Gigabit ports, 2 USB ports, good parental controls, numerous networking features, QoS, DLNA

Cons Dropped networking, flakey performance, poor customer support.

Summary Looking at the hardware and claimed features, this was supposed to be a great upgrade to my disappointing Belkin N750. Having the 7 gigabit ports is nice and the flexible parental controls. All the reviews on the negative are true to a fault. Dropped networking on a frequent basis, a self resetting password, dropped USB hard drive support, DLNA that doesn't seem to work, QoS that had to be turned off to try and get networking to be stable. If WD went to outside the USA to build this product, it shows with all the poor performance. If I can't get my issues resolved in the next week, it will be going back and I will get a refund for the unit and the extended warranty. Too bad to see WD have such a poor showing in a new product line.

  • "Works MOST of the time."

    Pros 7 gigabit ports
    2 USB ports

    Cons Unreliable networking

Summary I purchased this router a couple of months ago, I really wanted to fall head over heels with this router. And I had, until it didn't.

The router would drop all connections randomly. SSIDs disappeared on both bands and hardwired components lost IPs. Thinking I may have a bad unit I returned to place of purchase and walked out another. Two days later BAM same thing. WD's tech support was completely useless asking me to factory reset router and download all new firmware and whatnot. All of which had been done numerous times in my attempts at trouble shooting.

The router is wonderful when it is working. Dropping your connections on average once a week and having to reset the router was just not a favorable option for me. I was unable to find any other mention of this problem on any threads and all reviews through CNET and PCMag type sites have no mention of this issue.

Unfortunately I have ended up with a different brand, that I have always been loyal to, and actually have better performance in all aspects (Wireless range, throughput, USB attached storage transfer rates).

I will definitely miss the 7 gig ports and 2 USB ports as well.

  • "Great 11N router with some nice features"
    on by joshbillings

Pros Fast, reliable, quick set-up, range is good for small home

Cons None that I have seen!

Summary I got this, since I can't wait for WiFi Certification of 802.11ac routers to become available in Q2 2012 (don't want to buy an un-Certified router and have headaches later), so I got this for the house now. Easy set-up, and great speed. Range is good for my small home, and Fastrak Plus POS technology seems to be a go benefit for the router.

  • "Very Poor Product.Wd is usually better then this."
    on by Brad_031984

    Pros 7 ethernet ports.

Cons Disconnects randomly. Not a good product.

Summary Very poorly done product. I have had this router for about 2 weeks. Everyday It disconnects randomly for a few minutes. This is a high end router these problems shouldn't happen. I called tech support they are no help at all. They ask if you have the latest firmware which I installed when I hooked the product up. After that they suggest you return the product at the place you purchased it. I will do that however with paying for a high end router You Would Expect a little bit better customer service. At least pretend to care. I went to this from an Apple Airport extreme router which had less features but never had to be reset in the 2 years I had it. Only tried this router cause western digital is usually quality products however in this case it will tarnish there name. 50 dollar walmart specials you accept a few disconnects. When you pay upwards of 200 dollars you Expect high quality. And this wasn't an issue with the modem cause when you hook the modem.
