"Terrible Experience in Every Way"1.0 starson by mllej
Pros: There were no pros
Cons: Device did not work at all
Terrible customer service
Summary: I rented a Mifi hotspot device for use on a trip to Mexico. My terrible experience began when I went to Amnet in New York, which is listed on the Xcom Global website as a physical location where you can rent the Mifi. I thought, "How convenient - it's right near my office in Midtown Manhattan, I'll just go pick it up a few days before my trip".
When I got to Amnet, I quickly realized that it's a Japanese travel agency with employees who don't really speak English and who seem to have no experience renting Mifi devices. I had to play a game of charades in order to explain to them what I wanted, and when they finally understood they just called Xcom Global to put me on the phone with one of their representatives, who took my order over the phone. So much for the convenience of a physical location. It took no less than 30 minutes to rent the Mifi device - I've walked out of car rental agencies in less time.
When I arrived in Mexico, I realized in short order that 1) you need a password to log in to the network, which was not provided to me, 2) Xcom Global's technical support is not available on weekends (my trip began on a Saturday), and 3) the charger I was given with the device wouldn't plug into the device, so even after I finally got through to tech support on Monday and got the thing working, it ran out of batteries in less than a day and I couldn't recharge it.
In short, the whole experience was a disaster. I am going to ask for a full refund, don't know if I'll get it. I almost never write online reviews, but in this case I feel compelled to warn everyone: stay away from Xcom Global Mifi rentals!!!
