"Better than more expensive scanners"
Pros: Quiet, Quiet, Quiet Also pretty quick compared to the HP unit costing 30 dollars more which I returned. Negative scan quality is also good and simple to use. Slides go in quickly and the lamp warms well.
Cons: Manual is nonexistant.

"Excellent value, versatility!"
Pros: Simple user interface, software installation is a breeze. Excellent quality of scanned documents, pictures, slides, negatives. Images obtained from negative scans are actually better than original 35mm prints.
Cons: Can only scan one 35mm negative strip or two slides at a time, which makes digitally archiving a stockpile of them a chore. Lid shield (covers film scanner lamp) is flimsy and awkward to remove/replace - design could be improved.

"If it works, it is great! SEE PROBLEMS!"
Pros: See problems below to understand this. When didn't work on desktop, loaded the drivers into my Centrino based notebook with Intel drivers and the 4200F ran fine on first attempt, and the old 1250U2F was still dead. Quality of scans was excellent and muc
Cons: Recently upgraded desktop from PIII to AMD64, and Canon 1250U2F no longer worked. Purchasing the Canon 4200F was cheaper than repair cost. Never worked after spending a day with multiple install attempts and spending several hours with Canon's tech dept
