"Not flexible, in my opinion it is not user friendly." on by Rabbitsrun

    Pros: It looks nice.

Cons: Will not work with Picasa. It allows you to load a "read only" file .

Summary: I am your "Joe average" when it comes to computers. I found the Photo shop Elements 5, that Canon obliges me to use, difficult and time consuming to work with. Nor did I find any real benefit over the results I get from my simpler, faster, more intuitive Picasa programme. When I called Canon Technical for help I was simply told. " We do not support that programme". End of story ! Such inflexibility cannot be of benefit to the user. If I want to buy or use any other programme I should not be obstructed from doing so - especially in such a none caring manner. I will not get into the great difficulty and the excessive time I spent trying to load Canon's programme but I will say that I have a fast desk top computer with lots of memory and disc space. On top of all this nonsense I had the extra cost of shipping this restrictive product back across the country. I am disappointed that none of the "rated highly, independent reviews" picked up on this disappointing limitation. Google is not a minor player, nor, do I expect, that Picasa user's are either.

I should mention that I am using Windows 2000 XP Home Media Center edition.

There's NO point in downgrading your rating to 3 stars simply because you couldn't integrate your 3rd-party software with the CanoScan. And it's also a normal understanding that the buyer pays for return postage under any warranty claim with all electronic products.

For your info, Picasa is a VERY basic image manipulation program, and to be utilising a scanner such as this CanoScan EFFECTIVELY and to its fullest capabilities, you really should've made the effort to familiarise yourself with Photoshop.

And you can't realistically expect Canon technical support to be familiar with (at the least) every 3rd-party image software package out there! There's literally hundreds.

One doesn't buy a top-quality piece of gear like this scanner, and then use FREE software to process its output! You gets what you pays for in this world. Yours is a very unfairly biased review.
