"Works with Mac OSX, but software poor"
Pros: Considering the quality of photo scans it does, this scanner is reasonably priced at $99, but the poor quality of the software makes it frustrating to use.
Cons: The software that runs the scanner is of a poor design, with very skimpy documentation, and it crashed every time with OS X 10.6 when I first installed it. I had to download several software updates from Epson's web site to make it work. Once I finally g

"Corrupted my operating system"
Pros: Relatively easy to install, scan quality was good while it lasted.
Cons: Scanner installed on a Win98SE machine. Worked OK for several days than I began to have problems with the operating system and scanner ceased to function. Ultimately had to reformat drive and reinstall windows. Last piece of equipment re-installed was

"is it so hard to write decent software?"
Pros: good results when it works; looks good; ocr seems proficient; cheap
Cons: shameful software - buggy, non-intuitive and arbitrary; no real on-line support; crashes as soon as mac classic is in the air. buy a canon.
