Summary I've been using my Epson Perfection 2450 Photo for well over a year now, and it has worked flawlessly. I have used it with Windows 2000 Pro as well as with Windows XP Pro. Recently I upgraded my computer from an Athlon-based setup to a Pentium 4 3.06GHz. My new computer only has USB 2.0 ports while the old Athlon system only had USB 1.1. I am running Windows XP (as before) with the latest Epson drivers (5.71 I think) and every time I try to use the scanner I get the error: "Epson Twain 5 Error: Scanner failed to send image during scan." Quickly putting two and two together I realized that the only difference, as far as the scanner was concerned, was the new USB 2.0 vs. the old USB 1.1. So I plugged my old USB 1.1 hub into one of my new USB 2.0 ports and then plugged the scanner into the USB 1.1 hub. Voila! It works like a charm! So I have come to the conclusion that either Epson has a bunch of totally incompetent tech support personnel working for them or they are too dishonest to admit they have a USB 2.0 compatibility problem even though they advertise the Epson Perfection 2450 Photo as a USB 2.0 compatible device. Either way, I have lost a great deal of respect for Epson through this. Nonetheless, the 2450 Photo scanner makes excellent quality scans with great color, contrast and saturation. The built-in transparancy scanning capability with included slide and negative templates work great as well. So overall I don't think you can beat this scanner for the money, even with it's USB 2.0 flaw.

Pros Flatbed scanner does it all. Great for processing that boxful of negatives...any negatives! USB or firewire connection. It does whatever I ask it to do.
Cons Windows XP sometimes balks at software installation, but XP usually does. Works great once you get past these objections.
Pros Good quality scans and affordable price.
Cons In a nutshell...problems scanning documents into Acrobat 6 PDF format. Continual collapse of the scan after the pre-scan because the computer "lost contact" with the scanner. After weeks of wrestling appear to have solved the problem by switching from U
Pros The idea of this unit is good and on occasion in certain modes things work well.
Cons Bought mine off ebay from Tri-State in NYC. Its an official refurb so I thought things would be fine. Problem is in the scanning of negatives. They occasionally don't scan well, weird color casts amoung other problems. Tri-State doesn't really want to
