Good budget scannerby Mr Eman - September 2, 2006
Pros: Low cost and easy to use.
Cons: Very slow scanning

If you are looking for a good general purpose scanner that will work nice at home for your small projects and is easy to operate, this is the one for you. If you are looking for a scanner for professional use, you may want to spend a little more money. It is a great value for the home computer enthusiast.

Locked Up My Systemby - June 18, 2003

Don't get me wrong. I like HP. In fact I have two HP printers. That is why I tried them for an inexpensive scanner for basic flat bed copying. I'm running a PII-333 with Win98, 160Mb RAM, and over 2 GB of "free" HD space. After installing the 250 Mb of software the scanner would not operate unless I disabled "everything" in my system tray, including my anti virus software. Even then I got the blue screen of death a few times. I uninstalled and reinstalled the software several times. After waiting on hold for over 20 min I hung up on telephone support and tried the web page support. HP discribed my problem in their FAQ, and basically said it was problems with resources. I even download RamBooster to try to get the darn thing going. I gave up. Office Max took it back after 7 days of pure $#%&. I elected to try the Canon LiDE 20. It works! $30 cheaper and no lockups. Granted, the resoulution is not as high as the HP, but I don't need that. The Canon doen't take up as much disk space. It is faster at scanning. And, did I mention, No Blue Screen's, even with my Systray back to normal. Maybe the HP just needs Windows XP to run well?

Locks up XP. No extrasby - June 18, 2003

The 3500c is one of the worst scanners I have ever used. Picture quality on default setting is grainy, and the controls to alter settings are difficult at best. I have a 5 year old parallel port scanner that works better. Scan time is VERY slow, but the time for the program to load is EVEN SLOWER. My parallel port scanner is actually faster. I normally like HP products, which is why I bought this bargain scanner, but I cannot recommend this even for occasional users.

I bought this to do copies mostly. The copies are cropped on the margins. Diasbled auto-crop, tried editing in preview and HP editor but no luck. Running XPsp1 with Deskjet. Could be the printer, not sure. I am sure that it is extremely slowwwww to scan.

I bought this for my wife. She uses it on a Dell Dimension 8250 with Windows XP Home and she loves it. We have not had to contact customer service so I cannot rate support at this time.
