"Get the new drivers and you'll scan happy!"
Pros: Saves space, very versatile
Cons: Keep the drivers up to date
Summary: I had similar problems with banding UNTIL I contacted HP technical support and they referred me to a new driver. I downloaded the new software and drivers, reinstalled them all, and voila, a great scanner with great printouts! I am so happy now that I picked up the baby brother version (HP 4600) on special at a local office supply chain, and now I use it as a portable scanner with my laptop. I love how I can just lay the scanner on a book or other larger item and it scans great.

I am also having a problem after over a year of great service from this scanner. Please post the driver download site.

I have the latest drivers and it still doesn`t work at all on the machine where I really need it.
PS: Seems to be working fine on the two other machines I tried, except that's not where it's needed. -

Please tell us which driver you downloaded, I've spent too many hours on the phone with HP and don't want to waste my minutes!

I downloaded col6904mu2, released 5/04, and it did not solve the banding problem. Is this the updated drivers to which you are referring? HP Tech support is sending me a new scanner in an attempt to solve the problem, but based on the numerous reviews, I am not confident that this will solve the problem...
