    "Won't work with XP SP2 unless ..."

    on February 21, 2005

Pros: Good scan quality Lightweight Small size

Cons: If you have installed Windows XP SP2 forget this scanner. Per Visioneer Tech Support 02/18/2005 it can not be installed after SP2 is installed. It can also NOT BE uninstalled without a software download from Visioneer. There are also no install patches

no offense, but sometimes you've got to take these reviews with a grain of salt.

this scanner has no problems with WinXP sp2. Maybe it did at one time, but I've had the scanner since service pack 2 came out and didn't have a problem before or after applying the update.

Not sure why people are having problems with this scanner, most notably the person with XP SP2 who said he ended up donating the unit to good will. Maybe not reading instructions? I'm running a Dell C610 laptop, P3 1Ghz, 256mb RAM. And yes I have Windows XP SP2. I purchased this scanner tonight at OfficeMax for 79.99. I read the instructions, installed the drivers and software, plugged in the scanner via USB when it told me to, and was off to scanning. Created a PDF file of the warranty sheet, then scanned an 8x10 at 150 dpi of my daughter. Piece of cake. Both came out just fine, no problems whatsoever. I bought this scanner because of it's price against it's portability and quality. And I did so even though the other person had trouble with it in XP SP2. Why? Because I thought he was a clown for donating something he didn't think worked, to people that might not have got it working either, rather than simply returning it for a refund. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out he either didn't have the patience to read the instructions, or was too arrogant in thinking he THOUGHT he knew what he was doing. Um, same thing goes for the person who couldn't get it working in Windows 98 SE.

If you're looking for a portable scanner that produces good scans, this one works just fine. I would, however, use some better software. If running Windows XP, the built in scanning wizard worked just fine for me.
