"Horrible colors" on April 23, 2004

Pros: Interesting design, buttons are a snap, easy to set up

Cons: Image quality and color reproduction were marginal when it was new. Color reproduction has progressivly deteriorated to the point where although the scanner mechanically functions, I cannot use it. It's easy to accidently hit the buttons when loading the

"Easy, no problem setup and use (I do use XP)." on December 31, 2003

Pros: Easy to use. Great software package.

Cons: Paperport no very user-friendly. Does not give option of loading as needed. Configures for boot-up only, although you can remove from bootup sequence and then load as needed. Cannot seem to download One-Touch updates from website.

"I lost money on this one!" on October 11, 2003

Pros: none, since I can't get it to work without errors

Cons: Tried using it on two different Dell desktops with Win XP and it never worked on either...tech support no help either. "Generic Host Process for Win32 Services has caused an error" is what I get the moment I plug it in.

"Software locked up my computer" on June 18, 2003

Summary: The Paper Port Software would not install and locked up my computer (XP) on each of three install attempts. The scanner itself might be fine, and is an excellent value for its features (currently $40 after rebates at OfficeMax), but I am a novice user and don't have the knowledge (or time) to figure out how to install software in ways other than those described in materials that accompany the unit. (Not everyone is a techie, ya know). Nonetheless, I called Visioneer's tech support to see if there was a way around this, and spent 30 minutes on hold (incurring long distance charges), and finally hung up after no one answered. This one is going back to the store.
