"WOW! A Fantastic Scanner!"4.5 starson by mmichaels
Pros: Lightning fast both simplex and duplex. Flexible scan options. Documentation provided ON PAPER IN A REAL BOOK (not just on a CD) for a change.
Cons: Initial setup can be a bit confusing. A bit pricey for a home use solution, better value for an office environment.
Summary: I recently purchased this scanner from ammateroffax.com who's service and lowest price were the beginning of this positive experience.
The scanner is compact and fits easily on a standard desk (we were expecting to dedicate a table or stand to our new scanner). It unpacked easily with only a few "foamy things" to remove. On a sidenote, isn't it strange that it's easier to unpack a $900 scanner than my daughter's Barbie Doll?
Installation was as easy as expected. There were several additional software packages to install without much explanation on the install screen (who wants to dig into the documentation anyway). The software that comes with this scanner is:
OmniPage Pro 12
OneTouch 4.0 is the key software, in my opinion, that allows you to scan to Outlook, a printer, a fax, ScanSoft Paperport, Word, and other applications based on what "shortcut setting" you select. The only negative I can reach for with this scanner is that it may be a bit confusing to intially figure out how to best configure and utilize these shortcut settings.
We tested the scanner with some simplex scans and some duplex scans. There was no significant difference in scan speed between the two. My jaw about dropped when I saw how fast and how easy this scanner worked.
This scanner is a bit too pricey for home use and is intended for DOCUMENTS rather than photographs. I highly recommend this scanner for a corporate office environment where document scanning is commonplace.
