All acronis versions are buggy including the new 2009by jeffrey_developer - December 1, 2008
Pros: When or IF it works, then it does produce a good image of your drive.
Cons: Only works on some computers and not others. Especially the restore function won't boot on many computers so beware! Email and Web technical is almost impossible to get. a reply. See summary.
Review:
Not only is the "new" version 3009 buggy, it only runs on some computers and not
others. It also NO LONGER will run under Win2K.
Acronis support? I have sent them FIVE emails and web support requests and
still NO response whatsoever. They will sell you telephone support for $30 per
incident but note that if they deem that their product has a fault or bug then
they close the support incident and pocket your money. In other words, the $30
is theirs whether there is a fix or not.
In my case, I successfully made an image from a laptop drive but their bootable
CD would not run on my laptop. So it was impossible to do a restore of that
image to another HDD. I tried Acronis TrueImage 11, 2009, and Workstation
Professional and all gave the same result of not allowing a restore.

Does not back-up folders as advertisedby portvista - September 15, 2008
Pros: It does full disk images, but after hearing how hard it is to restore, I'm not sure if I even trust it. I don't have the time to test out a restore.
Cons: It does not back-up folders. Apparently this is a known bug, but it's been around for 2 years. There is a work-around, but it means compression is turned off. Some people can't even get the work-around to work.
Review:
Not ready for prime time. Would not trust it. Support is non-existent so don't even bother trying to contact them.

Product is in need of some major fixesby euglena4056 - August 23, 2008
Pros: Fast backup
Cons: Incredibly slow restore and cloning times; no pcmcia support in this version
Review:
I was having no problem making rapid backups, but when my hard-drive failed, that's when I learned of the problems with this product. Restoring a 70 GB hard drive should not take 24 hours. There is a lot on the various tech support boards on these problems. Acronis tech support people who write in to these boards seem oblivious to being able to really understand, reproduce them for themselves, and fix the problems with their software, and instead keep trying to get others to run various diagnostics and send them to Acronis. Suggested fixes are complicated and ineffectual, it appears, from the responses. One suggested fix involves creating their boot CD and then running the software from that, but the latest version does not include PCMCIA support, and I ran smack into that problem when my connected drive was not found! They suggest a lot of fixes for this lack of PCMCIA support, but these seem not to work, either. I have an older version of this product (Version 9) and at least it had PCMCIA support with the boot disk created with the software, but it had the same problem with restoration times taking eons.
(The fact that earlier versions had PCMCIA support, while this version does not, seems to be lost on the tech support people.) I'm looking for an alternative solution for backing up now.

Acronis True Image v11 FAILS 2 INSTALLby prston - August 20, 2008
Pros: Can't know pros if won't install
Cons: Fails to install and causes PC Problems
Review:
I attempted to install a downloaded copy of Acronis True Image version 11 on a SuperMicro workstation and a Dell Inspiron laptop, both Win XP Pro. Elsewhere on Cnet, others have reported installation problems too. Anyway. Both installations failed near the end. The failed installations apparently damaged the registry in both PCs, because major system errors occurred afterwards, such as hang-up on shutdown. The partially installed Acronis software could not be removed automatically thru Add & Remove Programs. Acronis support provided an Acronis 'clean-up' utility, but that utility did nothing. Although Acronis support made a major effort to help resolve the installation problems, they failed too in the end. Fortunately, I made a 'system state' back-up with Win XP's native back-up utility prior to the failed Acronis installation, that helped to restore both PCs back to normal. IN CONCLUSION, I strongly warn people against installing this product if they don't know how to perform major repairs to their PCs.
