Most useless software I've ever seen - and I've seen a lotby sheltonreb - April 27, 2006
Pros: Looks like they might actually know what's involved in moving software
Cons: Connection speed makes it utterly useless
Review: Right idea, no common sense on the execution. Parallel connection? USB? Ever heard of ethernet? I had 190 gig of programs & files to move - admittedly a fair amount. Transfer time was 1.5 MONTHS; and remember both new and old computer cannot be used for any other work while transferring. Even if you only had 40-50 gig - a normal amount these days - you're looking at hooking up two computers for a week or more and just staring at them, hoping it actually works? No way.

What a Joke - Does not work as advertisedby TheTechDoc - March 3, 2005
Pros: Since it does not work as it should, there are no Pros
Cons: Slow support, does not support burning of CDs
Review: The box and description says it will support removable media, but it does not. I spent weeks working with the support people at this outfit to find out burning of CDs in not supported.
I was taken for a ride - don't let it happen to you.

Cons: Anti-Virus programs can't transfer. A little bit of trouble getting connected. (Solved with support)

Poor interface is confusing and non-standardby - June 30, 2004

Cons: Many inconsistencies in the documentation and what is on their web site. For example the web site pushes the CompUSA USB cable as compatible while at the same time I found a remark in their forum that this cable was not certified as compatible. The poor s

The absolute worst!by - May 4, 2003
Pros:
Cons:
Review: This could possibly be the worst piece of software I've ever experienced.I purchased it in the hope of saving myself the time and tedium of reloading lots of application packages to my brand new Dell computer. The result was an entire weekend spent reloading and restoring the new Dell PC. PC Relocator Ultra trashed Windows XP on the Dell by transferring register entries/keys that it shouldn't have. The new version of M/S office on the Dell, which PC Relocator was told NOT to transfer settings for was rendered so buggy it also required a reload. On top of everything else I was unable to load Norton Systemworks 2003 onto the new PC as PC Relocator Ultra somehow prevented a successful installation of Norton's. Avoid this software!

Best migration tool aroundby - April 16, 2003
Pros:
Cons:
Review: Hi! I had a great experience with PC Relocator Ultra when moving my fathers data from an old Pentium II machine over to a new Dell I had bought him for Christmas. The program moved EVERYTHING flawlessly, and took just over two hours to move his files, Microsoft Office programs, and more to the new machine. I had a question about whether or not to move Office, so I called Alohabob Tech Support and got a very prompt and courteous response. Not sure where these other guys are having problems, maybe they called COMPUSA instead!!! My experience was quite the opposite, they were very friendly and helpful, and best of all PROMPT! Took care of me right away. Anyhow, DEFINITELY skip Detto Intellimover, it doesnt move your apps, meaning you have to reinstall everything from CD, plus they lie about what they move ... had a couple network mappings, printers, etc., and they couldnt move them even though they said so on the box! So skip Detto, go with Bob ... I know my dad is thrilled with it, thats for sure!!

DON'T USE AlohaBob v4.x or later!by - March 10, 2003
Pros:
Cons:
Review: I have used previous versions (v2.x, v3.x) of AlohaBob with great success--but never used them to migrate FROM a Windows XP source system. Tried both v3.x and v4.x to migrate from WinXP source to WinXP target system. DON'T! Nothing but problems. Had to retry several times. Apps would not load, missing .dlls, system files missing, etc. etc. Finally (luckily) I restored from a backup, and manually reloaded all my apps and settings. A pain, but better than AlohaBob.

AVOID THIS COMPANY'S PRODUCTS!by - March 5, 2003
Pros:
Cons:
Review: This is a product to avoid. Unless you are trying to move a machine with nothing on it you will fail and will end up doing more work untangling the mess this product makes than you would doing everything by hand. We have tried all versions of the product and they are all terrible wastes of money.

Too much pain,small gainby - February 15, 2003
Pros:
Cons:
Review: I read some reviews including PC Mag and it seem s like a good rational idea in order to save time with a new pc.Mr Luber argument agains the migration tools is wise and sound.I try the migration from W2000 Pro to XP and there were many problems with the drivers, pc freezes and crashes along the migration way.Re-installing in a new PC makes more sense now to me. I must say that the online support I recieved was prompt and attentive. It took about nine hours of difficulties, frustations and a bit of new gray hair to realized that re-installing in a new pc with a new OS was not such a bad idea in the first place.

Worth It - Try for Freeby - January 21, 2003
Pros:
Cons:
Review: Despite the problems others appear to have had with this software, I was very successful in transferring programs and settings from one XP machine to another. If you want to avoid paying for something that isn't useful, download it for free & try it out. If you don't have success, undo the transfer. With two networked PC's it took less than an hour to run scans on the hard drives and set up the transfer. Note that you should READ THE NOTES & FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS CAREFULLY. I walked away & came back a few hours later and was very pleasantly surprised - there were all my settings, backgrounds, fonts, recent file lists, etc. It wasn't perfect, EZ-CD creator, Corel Draw & an Atlas program, will have to be reinstalled but for the most part, it completely & accurately transferred MS Office, Autocad, Filemaker, Powerdesk, PrintShop & a host of other programs without a hitch. You never realize all the customized settings you have on your computer until you try to do this by hand, you'll nickel & dime your time away for days trying to get the settings correct. Also, the updates to original software are such a pain - find/load the original, then update 1, update 2, etc. When it completed the transfer, I tried most programs out before paying (they prompt you to pay after the transfer has completed) but I deemed it well worth it for even a one-time use. Never had to call support so I can't vouch for that.

It worked great for meby - January 13, 2003
Pros:
Cons:
Review: I upgraded a WIN 98 first edition PC to a new Dell with WIN XP PRO. It brought over my profile and all of my e-mail and internet setting perfectly. Some minor programs didn't work so I had to download the latest driver that was compatable with XP Pro. It successfully moved a program I had installed on my D drive to the new machines C drive and changed the registry entries properly. I guess when it works it works well.

BIG WASTE OF TIME AND MONEYby - January 6, 2003
Pros:
Cons:
Review: Bought Relocator Ultra Control at COMPUSA for $70. Transferred a few apps and some data from a Win98 to WinXP PC. This disabled the target LAN cable modem. Undid it, LAN worked OK. Retried various times, various ways, same problem. Finally loaded the apps manually on target PC and transferred a small amount of data thru the USB bridge cable. Small but very temporary success. Tried again to transfer just one app (Roxio 5). Same problem, net connection disabled. e-mailed Alohabob support for advice. Prompt response? Yes, but it stated they had no idea what caused problem and no suggestions about what to do about it. Tried one more time to move Roxio 5. Same result, except that attempted undo of the unsuccessful one app transfer somehow removed several other apps and drivers. Wasted more time sorting out these problems. Received another e-mail from Alohabob support which informed me that since they hadn't heard from me again (after advising they had no answers and no suggestions,) they were closing the case as "SOLVED"!

More Problems than it's worthby - December 16, 2002
Pros:
Cons:
Review: This product didn't live up to it's reviews. I first tried the regular product, and it crashed windows repeatedly. So the company upgraded me for free to ultra. That solved the crashing problem. But the migration proved to be very buggy. As the company later acknowledged, the program cannot migrate "selectively" with perfection. So it migrated registry entries or other keys that it shouldn't have, such as on Norton Systemworks 2002, which prevented a working installation of the other programs, such as Norton Systemworks 2003. Ultimately, I undid everything. The problem with Norton surfaced on day 31, when I tried to install the newest version of Systemworks for the first time. After undoing the entire migration out of frustration, I contacted the company for a refund. Because I was on day 31 rather than day 30, they refused to refund the price, even though they acknowledged the problem and the fact that my only good option was to undo the migration and not use the software at all. So it proved valueless to me, and the company's refusal to give me a refund one-day past the deadline means I'll decline to buy any of their software in the future.

No program costs so much and does so little, so badlyby - October 24, 2002
Pros:
Cons:
Review: I saw practically no resemblance between C/NET's glowing review of Aloha Bob and the miserable performance and value of the product I actually bought - for $79. Not mentioned in the review is that the product works exactly once, then its "activation code" system ensures it can never be used again, even on your own laptop or on other computers you own. If you ask the company for an activation code for your laptop, you'll just get told, in a smug voice, that you have to buy another copy of the program. Even Bill Gates doesn't try to get away with that. Worse, it doesn't even work very well. Its promises to "transfer your data and settings" are misleading. In fact, the only thing I found it could do reliably was to copy the "My Documents" folder. In all other contexts, it uses its own rulemaking to decide what is data and isn't, and its judgment isn't very good. For one example of many, it failed to copy all the files Stored under the root C( directory. If you tell it not to move your applications, it will miss large amounts of data it considers part of the "application", and you can't manually force the transfer. One particulary glaring shortcoming is its inability to transfer Microsoft Outlook data, such as address books, calendars, and e-mail. It claims on the box that it can, but in fact it can't do so if the new computer has a newer OS than the old one, which it always will. This was the very job I had purchased the program to avoid, and I ended up having to do it manually anyway. I don't know where the author of the review found his "efficient phone support". The only means of support identified in the box or on the web site is an e-mail address. This is great for a product which, if you need help with it at all, you will need it in the middle of a transfer operation with both your computers hosed up, on a weekend. I obtained a phone number only when I "activated" the product at the end of the procedure, and this number apparently only works Mon-Fri, daytime. I don't know how the author of the C/NET review came to his conclusions. Perhaps he tested only ideal scenarios, or, because they weren't his computers, didn't actually pay much attention to what was actually being transferred. In my case, I spent $79 and several hours of aggravation just to transfer one 60 MB folder. I would stop short of calling the product an outright ripoff, but just barely. It certainly gets my vote for the Biggest Waste of Money Award.
