Pros It has Windows Media Player 9. It has GPS capilbilities which make for some exciting gameplay.

Cons From what I have heard its screen resolution is very poor in sunlight.

Summary REMEMBER I LIVE IN THE UNITED STATES SO I HAVE NOT HAD A CHANCE TO TRY THE GIZMONDO UNIT.

    It looks good. It has:

    GPS
    Gaming
    Bluetooth
    GPRS
    Movie Viewer
    Digital Camera
    MP3 Player
    Messenger

I will now look at these features individualy the feature descriptions are from www.gizmondo.com

    GPS:
Gizmondo's integrated Global Positioning System (GPS) brings mobile gaming to life.

Developed by SiRF, the GPS service also allows you to set geofences around a building or city. If Gizmondo leaves this assigned zone it can send an alert via SMS to a mobile phone or PDA. The potential for this technology is enormous and Gizmondo will lead the way in its development for the consumer audience.

For instance, the technology blurs the line between physical and virtual for Gizmondo's debut title, Colors. In Colors, you and your friends can form gangs to wage war for control of the streets. However, because the game utilises GPS technology, the virtual rumbles can take place on the streets
of the very village, town or city in which you live. When you've kicked sufficient butt, you and your mates can go elsewhere to challenge Colors gangs in another part of town or even in an entirely different city.

Not only can Gizmondo make the most of existing location-based services like searching for the nearest ATM or McDonald's, if your friends own a Gizmondo you can find them too - perfect when you're at a festival or concert!

    Gaming:

Gizmondo sets the standard for mobile gaming. With 400Mhz of processor power, a state of the art graphics chip from Nvidia and a huge, high resolution TFT screen, Gizmondo totally outclasses all other mobile gaming devices.

Built-in GPS technology allows players to discover the true meaning of mobile gaming. Some of the most exciting, innovative and interactive experiences the gaming industry has ever seen are currently in development.

High quality multi-level games can be installed through an SD card or downloaded remotely via the mobile phone network.

Unlike other mobile gaming devices, Gizmondo puts you in total control with an eight-way D-Pad, left and right triggers and four face buttons.

    Bluetooth:

Gizmondo supports Bluetooth wireless technology. Connect to enabled devices such as PCs and mobile phones and share pictures or music files.

For gaming, Bluetooth allows two or more Gizmondo devices to link together for multi-player action. For local connections, Gizmondo also has USB capabilities.

    GPRS:
GPRS enables exciting and intense worldwide gaming experiences.

GPRS offers high-speed communication that follows your every move. Your challenger can be anywhere in the world. The only thing you have in common is the Gizmondo console.

Play against who you want. Anytime, anywhere.

    Movie Viewer:
Thanks to its Windows® CE operating system, Gizmondo has the most advanced video playback functionality ever seen on a mobile gaming device.

The opportunities for feature-rich media are endless. Not only is it possible to view and send video clips like music videos or film previews, but enabling technology will eventually allow users to view entire feature films.

Windows® Media Player 9 enables MPEG 4 video format viewing on Gizmondo's high resolution TFT screen.

    Digital Camera:
An integrated digital camera allows users to capture and share moments with friends through Gizmondo's MMS capabilities. These can be sent to both Gizmondo devices and other mobile handsets or PDAs.

A 'My Friends' area in the Gizmondo device allows users to collect and store their friends' images.

    MP3 Player:
The built-in Windows® multimedia MP3 facility enables users to download and enjoy their music on the move, in digital quality through the stereo headset socket.

The device's digital encryption technology uses digital handshake, restricted access and 'destruct at engagement' methods to prohibit piracy and theft.

The operating system enables easy downloading of music files while Gizmondo's integrated SD flash card reader lets users mix and store endless selections of music.

Gizmondo's unique Smart Adds system allows the music industry to deliver customized, feature-rich content via MMS.

    Messenger:
    Messaging

Messaging is a way of life for Gizmondo users. Through the GPRS network, Gizmondo offers a range of messaging functions that enable convenient communication.

Gizmondo's MMS capabilities lead the field. Users can even send and receive rich-media files, including MP3 and Mpeg clips.

Write basic SMSs quickly and easily with predictive-input texting. Or snap a picture with the built-in camera, add it to a MMS and send it to any mobile phone or Gizmondo device in moments.

Gizmondo's Smart Adds system allows advertisers to deliver customized feature-rich content via MMS, opening up all-new revenue streams. Imagine being able to send demos of the latest games, clips of upcoming movies or samples of the newest album releases directly to your target audience. Now that's smart!

  • "Big scam, from crooked mobsters. I feel bad for all those who have bought this junk."
    on by Obveron

Pros No pros that can be listed. This device was a waste of money.

Cons Company is bankrupt so future support for games is not going to happen. This device was never made to succeed. It was a giant scam for the purpose of embezzling large sums of cash.

Summary I really don't understand some of the positive reviews I have read for this device. It may come with an assortment of technical features, but can anyone list any good games?
Read this article on some of the company's founders for more infor on these crooked swedes: http://wired.com/wired/archive/14.10/gizmondo.html?pg=1&topic=gizmondo&topic_set=

  • "the gizmondo is an ok product"
    on by skilzthatarkiler

Pros the gizomondo has good mp3 and video playback

Cons i think the gizomondo could be smaller less bulky and the gaming graphics could be a little bit better than they are now but also the camra should have zoom

Summary i think the gizmondo is a good system with some cons. in the gizmondo they should have made the camara with a zoom. they should have made it so it can connect using blue tooth to other products than just a gizmondo. the grapics for gaming were pretty godd but the psp kiled that and not so much the ds. the video graphics are good provide you can find the right format. the sound is great. one flaw was that the speek is right underneath the contole buttons so when your playing a game or skiping a track the sound get muffled under your finger. i ddint use the gps or any thing but when i sent text message it wewnt like anormal cell phone. the gizmondo is a pretty good gadget ir u dont have a lot money costing around 220$ a little bit pricey but chepper than the psps and a little but more than the ds but does way more than the ds.

  • "Looks fine..."
    on by BJBubbaJones

Pros play video games, camera, video viewing, mp3 player, bluetooth and (on Gizmondo Widescreen) wi-fi. Not even that pricey for such a vast featured product. Also has GPS function. (Sold seperately.)

Cons Not much really except for the fact that it does not have a wide selection of games (but it is also a new product and won't have tons yet.)

Summary This thing looks to me like a work of art. People's attentions are drawn to me when I listen to music on the mp3 media player. Then look at me enviously when I watch videos on it. Then they go home and beg their parents for one. I use the GPS to find their house, then I take a picture of their pissed off faces!

  • "Not just a great gaming device"
    on by nikanika1

Pros Lots of impressive features, incredible battery life, quite small yet still a good screen size.

Cons Current lack of games (more are coming, including the very promising COLOURS)

Summary An amazing device, with some fun games, there arent alot out yet, but alot are promised for the near future. It has a built in speaker, gps, gprs, movie and music playing capabilities, takes photos, views photos, send text messages and pic messages, e-mails, bluetooth for wireless gaming, amazing grpahics, the analog control is in the right spot (unlike the controls for the psp, the 'stick' is in the wrong spot), very bright screen(you can turn it down and off), uses common SD cards that are getting cheap, It is really amazing. Go to WWW.GIZMONDO.COM to check it out. I own one, there is nothing wrong with it. (but yes, they take a bit long to turn on)
