"Bad product"

1 stars  | on by belgav

Pros

Average Price

Cons

Poor manufacturing, no support, bad customer service

Summary

I bought this card & within a week, took it on a $10 000 vacation after 194 high quality pics the card became unreadable. Lexar themselves do not know what is wrong with their card. I received disgusting service from their support and management team! Ten thumbs down to Lexar!

First of all, my Lexar 1GB SD card is slightly different. It's 32x speed. You can see the "32X" printed on the card label at the top right corner. I don't know how fast the one displayed here is, but I'm guessing the trasnfer rates shouldn't be too much different.

The main thing with SD cards is either it works or it doesn't. There are variations but they don't seem to apply in my case. This card is being used for my PDAs: Tungsten T3, Zire 71, and Zodiac 2. AFAIK, any fast transfer rates aren't utilized. I don't have a current gen of digital cameras to test the speeds either.

For my PDAs and my USB SD card reader for my PC, the card works as expected. "one big floppy disk". So far it's been reliable and stable after a years use. It's also been used for temporary situations for friends' and collegues' digital cameras that use SD cards as well.

However there actually is a bad thing I gotta say about this card and it's the write protection switch is too loose. This started happening about several months ago. When I place this SD card into the SanDisk SD card reader for PC, sometimes the switch gets caught on the side of the slot and gets pushed to the "lock" position. Minor nuissance really, as I just take it back out and flip the switch back, but still something I could do without.

Despite the switch thing, I'd recommend this card. Just make sure you get it as inexpensive as possible. Otherwise, there are 2GB SD cards now at faster speeds, fun colors, and competetively priced.
