Unstable riskware

Pros: Great features

Malware included the AOL toolbar AdWare.Win32 FizzleBar, Toolbar Softomate ,BroadCastPC data miner, AxMetaStream.dll, AdWare.Win32. AIM.exe aim.dll (irc.ratsou.d trojan) depending on the version of AOL/AIM installed.
PC World calls it badware.

Very Very Slow!!

Pros: It has E-mail, IM, and Web all in one...it is very easy for beginers of internet!

Cons: It is the slowest thing I have ever seen in my life!! I have broadband and it was 50 times slower then when I had dial-up!!

Review: I recomend using AOL 9.0 VR which you can get at: http://daol.aol.com/software/90vr

User Rating: 2/10

An Awful Product

Pros: None that I can find.

Cons: Loading problems, Lockups...

Review: A slow bug ridden browser that should never have been released without more extensive testing. My copy often fails to load and announces that AOL is reinstalling my software. This is great fun to do three times a day.

When it does run, it often locks up forcing a reboot.

User Rating: 10/10

AOL 9.0 Rocks!

Pros: Security, TopSpeed, E-mail, Free Services option

Cons: None. AOL is perfect.

Review: I am using AOL because of their new AOL Free Services option. I already have a high-speed connection, so this is a bargain for me. I like how they have multiple Welcome screens to choose from. The small business content is great. I also like how the e-mail spam filters allow you to block all e-mail from people not in your address book.

aol 9.0 security edition is so slow

Pros: never had a virus infect my computer

Cons: it is so slow to boot up and shut down

Review: I cannot believe how slow this edition has made my computer run. I have never had a virus infect my system, but the slowness is a high price to pay. I have had my system looked at by a professional, and she concurred it is this edition that is the problem. AOL needs to speed it up or lose customers.

Stay away! AOL 9.0 SE is a Nightmare!

Pros: Clean user interface. Lots of features

Cons: Installation problems / pages wont load. Customer service is not helpful!

Review: Ok first let me say that I am not hard to please but this software is a nightmare! I installed AOL 9.0 SE.

1st: I couldnt access My Account Information (keyword Billing) to see my billing date & demographics information. The page kept looping & never did open? I contacted Live-help and they had me change my account security question, delete cookies, restore IE default settings - Well nothing worked. So then they didnt have a solution?

2nd: The Safety & Security Center was a nightmare. The Antivirus included in the AOL software wouldnt download. I contacted Tech support & guess what they couldnt help me.

Customer service is annoying - In their opinon AOL is never the issue behind the technical difficulties. Its always on the customers end. What an easy cop-out! Im sick of AOL - Ive tried their service more than once, but Im wlways disappointed by all the bugs & technical problems!

The worst ever

Pros: AOL IS EASY TO SPELL

Cons: EVERYTHING ELSE

Review: Where do I begin.....The installation took forever..Once AOL started to load it took forever to startup....even on my 8meg road runner connection..... AOL E-mail was selfish( EX: You couldn't check e-mail from other ISP's.) AOL wanted to control everything on my computer and did right down to my virus protection to putting a search bar on my windows taskbar. When it came time to unistall from disappointment...IT WAS ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE TO DO (EVEN FOR AN IT GRAD LIKE MYSELF) unstall-ing took two hours due to all the junk that goes along with the cheap excuse of a broswer. Then when it came time to cancel my account that was like pulling teeth. I told them I wanted to cancel they said no...I said yes...they said no......after 15 min of this I got cancelled. All in All, AOL is way too controling. which is fine if you know nothing about computers. But everyone else it sucks for.... I would say AOL is the NAZI's of the ISP's....And I'm Being nice.

AOL 9.0 is terrible...causes BSOD

Pros: CDs make good coasters

Cons: Everything...slow, crashes computer, P.O.S.

Review: Absolutely the worst garbage software I have ever seen. Causes numerous PC problems, filled with useless applications, no way to customize install, corrupts harddrives, slows down PCs, makes them unstable. I've been building PCs for 11 years, and I'm an advanced PC user...AOL 9.0 plain sucks all the way. Even the AOL tech said that 8.0 or earlier is better. STAY AWAY FROM AOL 9.0 AT ALL COSTS!!!! IT"S A PIECE OF GARBAGE!!!!

Little of no ethics with regard to perceived bill collecting

Pros: Good connectivity nation wide

Cons: If you ever get into a bill squabble with these folks there is no way to resolve the issue.

Review: Recently started getting phone calls from AOL collection service saying I owed them money. I told them I didn't even have an account with them. AOL asked my name and they had the wrong person. Asked for my social securityh and still no match. However, since AOL had my phone number their rationale was that I was lying to them and I was really the mystery person. These calls went on incesantly for more than three months. I finally went to a lawyer who said I could sue them but all their operations (those calling me) were from outside the U.S. and I would spend a ton of money with little financial reimbursement. Don't use them folks. If you ever have a real problem with them it will make you crazy!!

AOL SUCKS!!!!

Pros: Absolutely Nothing

Cons: IT SUCKS and it's bloated!

Review: Why use a n00b isp when you have better choices out there and it has alot of bloatware.

User Rating: 4/10

Not that great, just what's available

Pros: Very easy to use, good program for novices

Cons: Most expensive, slow and cumbersome

Review: From the beginning I have not cared for AOL. It's slow, cumbersome, and I hate the way they are constantly trying to shove their optional services at me. I also don't like the way it takes over your computer. Because of my job however it remains my only realistic choice. My job requires me to frequently be in different places around the world. Why can't another ISP step up to the plate to challange AOL and provide global access? AOL's popularity is not due to it being a great ISP, just for a lot of people it is their only choice. OK, to be fair, AOL is very easy to set up and use. If you are a novice or casual computer user this is probably your best choice. But for what they charge there should be no advertising at all, yet they have more ads then any ISP I have ever used in the past. For as much advertising as they have, the ISP itself should be free. I persoanlly challange the other ISP's out there to take on this monopoly and provide global access to business travelers. I think you would get a lot of business from people like me who use AOL simply because it is our only choice.

YOU ARE NOT ALLOWED TO CANCEL

Pros: Its free for a month

Cons: EVERYTHING ELSE AND YOU CAN NOT CANCEL

Review: First off I have a GIG of RAM in my P4 computer and this piece of rubbish does nothing but cause lock ups and freezes. I only downloaded this because my cable was out for a couple days. When I tried to cancel it I had thier sales reps begging for me to keep their service and to try the broadband software along with their music. I tried their software all of which was the most horrid piece lump of BLOATWARE known to man, and this is coming from years of dealing with MS. It literally took half my RAM just run their stuff. I called again to complain and to ask to cancel my order this time a different person gave me the same rubish and sent a brand new CD to my home with the same software and continued to talk about how great this HORRID company is until I hang up on him. I am calling my credit card company immediately and asking them to cancel or I will have to get a lawyer and take legal actions. Yes this is actually normal for them.

The effects of Corporate America's strong hold on consumers and the job market. They are literally threatening their staff not to let people cancel or else they will end up on the street. Thanks alot republications, for letting this happen along with the abuse of the DMCA. Coldhearted and horrible companies need to be boycotted and lynched.

YES THEY MAKE MICROSOFT LOOK LIKE ANGELS IN BOTH POLICY AND SOFTWARE.

Flawless - At least for DSL users running XP

Pros: User friendly, great tech support, dirt cheap

Cons: You better have 512MB RAM & up to date equipment,

Review: Old versions of AOL were full of problems. None here. They finally got it right. For all of $9.95 a month (I bring my own SBC/Yahoo DSL pro connection), I can manuever this pup like a sports car. I can view multiple screens, use a host of great features, and get quick access to tech support - even on non aol issues - from people that speak ENGLISH. The complainers probably are running inadequate systems or something other than IE 6.0 browsers. AOL's stated miniminum system requirements are inadequate for optimal performance. Since I moved from a 256 MB RAM computer to one with 1026 MB, I never get cut off or experience slow downs. With 256MB RAM, running aol + McAfee firewall + about anything else would put me over the edge and I'd get cut off.

User Rating: 3/10

Antivirus and Firewall are half baked!

Pros: Nothing..........

Cons: The Antivirus and Firewall aren't the full versions (Like with MSN Premium), AOL nags you to upgrade (and pay more) for Pro firewall...

Review: Whatever AOL. Any service can offer a half baked firewall and antiviral software. C-Net forgot to mention how hard it is to cancel a subscription with you guys too.

User Rating: 9/10

Not a bad upgrade

Pros: Clean,Intuitive interface,well seperated categories,easy to use

Cons: No option for not installing some components during setup

Review: I tried this when I was disillusioned with NetZero HiSpeed 3G. Looks like Aol has come a long way from it's humble beginings in the early 90's.When you need them AOL is always there. The have great live support and can answer most questions and help you with your problems on the first try.The interface has come a long way,it is very asthetically pleasing to the eye. Loads of good broadband content to watch and listen to. If your looking for a reliable, dependable, stand alone isp AOL 9.0SE is a good all around package to use. If your looking for a connection to open your browser with its good but an indidvual company like verizon is the way to go.All around a nice community atmosphere and good content.

AOL Rocks!

Pros: Its fast, stylish, gives you easy access to information

Cons: It maybe a little constricting at times

AOL smoked the firewall

Pros: anti virus works well

Cons: firewall confuses itself

Review: I have AOL Security Edition. I like the anti virus although I already bought McAfee. I thought I liked the firewall until I upgraded to the pro edition. (which was recommended by AOL) Now every time I log on the firewall is not activated. I put the executable in the startup menu but half the time it doesn't initialize. AOL told me it was a McAfee problem. Yeah right, If I use Internet Explorer I don't have the missing firewall problem??? Figure this one out!!

~ WORST PROGRAM AVAILABLE!!! ~ STAY AWAY!

Pros: NOTHING! There is NOT one thing good about this program/software anymore! STAY AWAY!

Cons: Everything! Nothing is safe with AOL! STAY AWAY!

Review: AOL offers free anti-virus, free spyware, free computer checkup, cheap firewalls & privacy walls and much more. This is because they are losing business and they have to find a way to keep there business! However, all of the CRAP they are offering is not updated like normal Nortons and McAfee! My system crash TWICE in 8 days because of AOL! AOL couldn't even explain it! The last time I fixed my computer I did NOT put AOL back on it. It has been a while now and it is perfect! NOTHING has gone wrong. However, I still have AOL On my other computer and it is having problems! AOL will be removed from that computer very soon! If you can.... STAY AWAY FROM ANY AND ALL AOL PRODUCTS!!!! THEY ARE BAD NEWS!!!

User Rating: 8/10

Great for Beginners

Pros: Easy installation and self explanatory usage.

Cons: Experience will make a person branch out to other browsers instead of AOL's browser

Review: AOL is not for the computer savy people. AOL is marketed to and for people that are just starting off on the Internet. AOL provides all of the tools to get up running and be safe. I do not have to worry about someone at AOL passing a virus or helping to propogate trojans since all of the tools are provided for free. I wish that all ISP's provided the same qualities.
Once a person masters the Internet then it would make sense to use another browser, but the service offered by AOL is immeasurable.

Auto deleted entire system files that had a virus attached

Pros: You can walk away from your computer while it deletes critical system files.

Cons: It auto deletes critical system files!

Review: I expected it to prompt me before it deleted critical system files like c:\command.exe Deleted the entire file. 14 files affected and it deleted them. Even important system files. A virus scanner that does more damage than the viruses themselves. At least I tested it on a friend's machine who owes me money.

User Rating: 9/10

I find it fast and efficient. NO lockups on my computer.

Pros: I have no pros .

Cons: I like the fact of having a the security and privacy.

Review: I don't know what some of the people are
complaining about. Perhaps they need a new computer. I have a Dell computer and have had no problems whatsoever with AOL 9.0 Security Edition.

User Rating: 1/10

Couldnt upgrade from version 9

Pros: Didnt work -

Cons: Didnt work at all - crashed my computer

Review: Upgrading is not hassle free - so be warned, I gave up tryinhg

User Rating: 8/10

A Step in the right direction

Pros: Convenience

Cons: Pricing and or Availability

Review: America Online's software, is clearly not for everyone, and those that don't like it at all and never have, are not going to start liking it anytime soon, unless they are reviewing the software and being paid to give a fair opinion. AOL deserves the 8 it receives from CNET, It's not good when Microsoft's MSN gets lower performance ratings from CNET on MSN. I think MSN is CNET's editors choice because MSN, no matter what change it goes through, still reflects a rather corporate personality, while AOL is more individual America Online is for the person who wants convenience online, for techno nerds AOL is not going to win any points. The efforts to streamline the software are paying off, and America Online is still a windows application for most, so because of that, don't expect it to be perfect. I am a an intermediate computer user, and an AOL subscriber, but don't be fooled, just because i'm a member doesn't mean that I am computer illiterate. People chose to use AOL, they are not forced.

It Sucks! Locks Up any PC!

Pros: -None-, gets you online for 24 bucks!

Cons: It SUCKS, I hate it, runs unneccessary processes, locks up, they give you Virus Protection and that prevents you from using WAOL

Review: Runs many unneccessary processes, you cannot get online because it is the virus, its unnesseccary processes are: WAOL.exe, AOLDial.exe, and something else. If you saw the latest commercial it got some viruses and spam.
Updated
Also, when you get the service, it is the spyware, @ssholey, and virus.

User Rating: 1/10

What a complete disappointment

Pros: There are none

Cons: Not functioning at all with WinME

Review: The computer freezes after establishing an online connection and I am unable to disconnect without forcing a shut down. ctrl-alt-delete won't even end the program and then I have to reboot. After establishing a connection the program always stops responding. I can't take it anymore, going to go back to a previous edition.
