great ptoduct

Pros: I have been using it since it was first introduced and I love it. I never have to do anything as it quietly works in the background keeping my PC virus free, defragged and tuned up etc.

Cons: There really is nothing to dislike about it. BTW, I do not work for Microsoft.

Review: As I said earlier, I never have to do anything as it quietly works in the background keeping my PC virus free, defragged and tuned up etc.

THE BEST!!!!! But.. DO NOT PURCHASE

Pros: This was simply the best. However Microsoft is ending it and replacing with a free Suite...

Cons: The end of onecare nears.

Review: Microsoft has introduced MICROSOFT SECURITY ESSENTIALS which will be taking over onecare and will be FREE so do not buy onecare.

Never a problem in 3 years.

Pros: I don't think about it. I just don't have any virus or malware issues...even with some questionable websurfing practices. 3 years now.

Cons: I feel like Microsoft is watching. It tells me go to Microsoft for updates, etc.

Review: Even though I feel like big brother (Microsoft) is watching, this product has worked well for me and I'll continue using it.

Software is completely inadequate and overpriced

Pros: It overs a nice 30 day trial
Easy to uninstall

Cons: Doesn't provide enough settings or features. When it does find malware it doesn't display the file in which it found it. Therefore the user is stuck and can't cut down the time it takes to scan again.

Review: Windows Live Onecare isn't worth your time or money. Microsoft wants fifty dollars for the protection of 3 computers. In my opinion it isn't worth twenty. A better choice would be to use AVG 8 Free. It is much better.

Simple and Effective - Controls are limited.

Pros: I have Vista 32 Bit ,Trend Micro. I was infected with a Bowser Hijacker, that disabled any kind of updates. Trend Micro could not remove it. This product solved the problem immediately. I am now trying it without Trend Micro. It seems to do the job.

Cons: Seems overly simple, leaving out a lot of detail and user customization features that users of programs like NAV,McCafee, etc. are used to.

Review: Definetly worth trying , especially if you have been infected with malware that you can't seem to remove with the tools you are now using. It rescued me, seriously.
Microsoft will give you a 90 day free trial, so there is no risk. If you don't like it, you can go back to you previous security softweare at nay time. Price is good to $50.00 for 3 PC's per year.

Pease of mind with elegance.

Pros: Genuine peace of mind. Single point of admin and VISIBILITY within a multiple-computer home. Single integrated solution (antivirus, backup, etc). Excellent end-user usability.

Cons: None that I can see.

Review: The end-state is here. After having tried (and paid) for many different solution, finally the market-place has delivered what SOHO need. First, OneCare gives me a single point of admnistration AND visbility for my two home laptops in terms of backups, viruses, etc. No more worrying about the wife's computer and her saying "Honey, I got this pop-up..." Second, a single solution that integrates antivirus, tune-up, backups, etc. I've used 360 for the past year because of this integration, and OneCare is similar/same in this regard. Thirdly, usability. This is where OneCare also differentiates itself from others I've used. It was the ONLY solution that executed a backup without an error - seems other products (e.g., 360) always failed 2 out of three attempts. And tight integration with Vista combined with MSFT expertise in UI makes for a much more elegant solution (no more annoying, ugly pop-ups from Norton). In sum, I NOW have peace of mind (backups go off fine, know status on wife's computer, updates) with an elegant UI that integrates very tightly with Vista - excellent job MSFT.

The First Security Suite that I Forgot I Was Running

Pros: Ease of Use, Smooth Operation, Very Helpful Feature set

Cons: The only con I have is that it may be going away.

Review: I purchased my current PC brand new from HP in March of 07 I believe. I was originally running Zone Alarm Security Suite however, it was not ready for Vista so I gave OneCare a try. The result is that I dropped Zone Alarm and purchased OneCare and never looked back. I have to admit that I was doubtful that Microsoft could pull it off but I'll say that Live OneCare is the FIRST Security Suite that I have owned that ran so well that I don't notice and even forget that its installed.

After the first month of operation I was constantly checking to see if it was operating because it never seemed to get in the way or show any signs that it was scanning or downloading updates. Granted I always run scans and updates when Im asleep but even with some of the highest rated Security Suites out there the strain they put on your PCs performance is beyond noticeable.

I have pretty good web surfing skills so I tend to block a lot of things for getting placed on my PC.....even cookies from sites I don't know so even after having OneCare for two years I was surprise and kinda excited that I had finally bumped into a site that try to download something malicious to my PC and OneCare stopped it in its tracks.

The reason I was excited by this event is because the program runs so quietly that I often wonder if its protecting me at all. At one point; after originally installing OneCare after eight months I uninstalled it and installed Zone Alarm, ran a complete scan of my system and found that it was clean.

Of course I removed Zone Alarm and reinstalled OneCare and have been fairly confident that its doing its job and doing it well.

Simply The Best! Better Than All The Rest!

Pros: Very Light, Nice UI, Fast, Backup, Tune-up, Low Price. control 3 computers.

Cons: None. Everything is a pro about onecare.

Review: Worth the money.. get it for 29.00 at walmart.

Updated on Apr 25, 2009

I highly recommend OneCare but I would not purcahse it right now. Microsoft has began phasing it out to make room for "Morro" The FREE antivirus in windows 7.

Get a 90 day trial with no limitations and by the time it expires you should have Morro available.

PITIFUL - Buyer Beware

Pros: None, nada this is real bad news!

Cons: Poor support, does not play well with outher software ie Lavasoft and Zone Alarm. MS grabbed my money and RAN with this one. Support Poor! I wish that I could get a refund on this.

Review: Bottom line save your money on this one! Buyer beware. You would be muct better off using the Zone Alarm Security Suite /Lavavasoft AD-AWARE Pro Anniversary Edition. These two items work great !

Perfect for the average computer user.

Pros: Very low system overhead usage, automatically updates and upgrades, very easy to use, good looking user interface, blockes and removes all kinds malware, uses certain on-access scanning technologies only avalable to microsoft, all in one.

Cons: Malware detection rate is not very high(86%), often takes a little too much time to remove malware.

Review: Microsoft Windows Live OneCare is an outstanding product. This product is great for a hpuse hole with one or more computers. Many think that OneCare is not very effective due tot he fact that it is created by Microsoft. Theose are mostly false reports and comments. OneCare is a very easy to use all in one computer care service. The firewall is a stronger version than Windows firewall. Overall, OneCare is a great solution for your home network. Covers pretty much all of the problems.

Can Get Better Software That?s Free On The Site.

Pros: Good price, easy set up, pretty much automatic.

Cons: Wants to uninstall AVG antivirus & Advance System Care, which pick up threats that Windows Live One Care did not.

Review: Until I see some improvements & a high rating than the programs that are free, I?ll pass

Bloated, slow, and absolutely unsupported

Pros: Convenient illusion of protection form the people who SHOULD know it best... BUT don't give a damn about the end user and their experience with the product.

Cons: Microsoft does not test product from a user perspective and never will. This product is adequate but very memory demanding and slows your machine when taking control. Customer service in absolutely inaccessible

Review: I will voluntarily use nothing from Microsoft because of their contempt for users and impossible "support". OneCare has reasonable features (technically exceeded by many competitors) but their business tactics of just 'taking"renewal subscriptions and roadblocking cancellations is reminiscent of only AOL who they are joining in a definitive downward spiral.

Does it all... poorly

Pros: Cheap - reminds you to run it.

Cons: Does nothing well (defrag or backup anyway)

Review: I bought it on sale for $9.95 which is dirt cheap even for 1 PC and it can be used on 3 for a year. The problem is that it's clumsy, slow and you have virtually no control over backup and defrag. I only installed it under Vista (where I have little to lose) because I had heard the 1.x release was awful but 2.0 was better. Think about this: to run a "tuneup" you have to let Onecare complete a sequence of spyware scanning, defrag and then backup. In my case the defrag will run for hours so I can't backup Vista unless I'm willing to sit thru a full (and slow...) defrag - it's just stupid... The backup applet does not seem to integrate into a full system restore that I can see so it's just a file level backup and you have crazy choices like "mail files" and "financial files" which are based on extensions. This might be better than nothing for somebody but I think most people would be better off syncing to a USB key and doing the rest by themselves.

A lot of features in a tiny box

Pros: AV, ASpyWire, Backup, Tuneup, Sharing, Circles, Family Controls...

Cons: You lose all settings when upgrading or reinstalling

Review: The new 2.0 version of Onecare really adds to an already strong 1.5 Version. In this version, you can now manage multiple Pc's as part of your circle. I'm able to review status of computers in my circle from my laptop plugged in at work! In addition to AntiVirus, and AntiSpyware, supports backups to centralized network storage, optional online photo storage, performs tune ups, patches, file cleanups. Just noticed they added Family Support, which is an optional and free add on to monitor and control child usage of systems. It really is paying for itself in all the add ons!
