"Amazing technology in a superb performance vehicle"
Pros: keyless entry memorizes customized driving environment, spectacular sound system, ease of use for technology
Cons: back seat and trunk a tad smaller than competitors
Summary: I spent a huge amount of time comparing the competitors in this category (Audi A6, BMW5, Mercedes E350, Lexus GS) and the Acura RL wins hands down. The value (it comes without options fully loaded) is excellent and the technology integrates seamlessly into your "drive-flow". The interface is easy to use and it is rare that there isn't a dash button for what you need. You rarely have to joy-stick down into deep menu levels (only to customize settings). The ability to customize seat settings, mirrors, sound system and climate preferences and then have them implemented when you enter the car keylessly is delightful, especially if your tastes differ from those of your wife. The navigation system is right-on and the ability to "see" the traffic situation for your entire trip to work before you pull out of your garage is extraordinarily helpful. The 10 speaker Bose sound system with 5.1 channel DVD audio is impressive. The salesman described the car as a perfect sound chamber that drives and he wasn't far off the mark. I haven't gotten my blue tooth phone yet, so I can't comment first hand, but the capabilities for phone integration are impressive. Couple all this with an amazing performance vehicle (see Road and Driver for these details) and legendary Acura/Honda reliability and this car is the clear winner in the category of luxury performance sedan.

I have owned an RL for over a year and have also owned Audi A6 and BMW 550 and Lexus GS 300. This is the best car of the group for the price.

I tested almost every car in this class and found the RL to be the hands down winner in every respect. The RL is missing just a few convenience features I would have liked: Heated steering wheel, a mute button on the steering wheel, and the backup camera (it's $1100 option!) but these are not required to love this car. Look at the spec's it's fast, handles amazingly well and has every electronic gizmo beautifully integrated into a wonderfully functional package. It has the only voice control nav that lets you speak your city/address. I happen to like the way it looks. I am a german car guy previously; My last 3 cars were a MB S500, an ML SUV and a Porsche Cayenne S. Trust me when I tell you, this is the best deal in a car I've ever run across. If you like the M35x and don't mind 16 mpg, that's also a great car for this price category.

the chassis and mechanical components of this vehicle have to be around long enough for them to be legends in order for their reliabilty to be considered legendary. in other words, its too early to say that this car will be as reliable as some of the older 4 cylinder hondas that set the upper limit of engineering quality and reliability in the automotive world.
also the cars that you compare this to are only in the same price category. the is350 and g35 x sedan both have the same base characteristics (3.5 liter v-6 with roughly 300 hp, awd, luxury sedan)and are both cheaper and even have better performance (in the g35x case because it is offered with a manual)
