"Compared to its competitors, the new Sonata truly shines."
Pros: ABS, traction control, power everything...all standard. Very roomy, quiet, with a capable engine.
Cons: Slighty uncomfortable drivers-side headrest. No premium Audio option. No extra tech flair. Fuel economy is so-so.
Summary: Ordinarily, I find Cnet reviews to be top of the line, in fact it's my first stop whenever I shop for tech products. This review, however, left me rather disappointed. For starters, the reviewer repeatedly refers to the car as the Sonata "EX", though there is no such trim...the top of the line is the LX. Aside from that, the car is rated as mediocre in comfort though in my opinion, the car is definitely better than average, Hyundai or otherwise. It has a slightly better (smoother and quieter) ride than the Accord, more interior room than the Camry, Accord, or Altima (it's primary competitors), more powerful engine than all but the Altima at a price they cannot touch. The reviewer refers to this car as a "small sedan" when it is actually a midsize. In fact, the Sonata actually has the exterior dimensions of a midsize and interior dimensions that put it in the large sedan class. Power windows is NOT an additional option. In fact, the only meaningful add-ons (most are standard at a base MSRP of $17895!!) is the V6, 6-CD Changer, Sun roof, Automatic Transmission, and Leather. I rented the car last weekend and was pleasantly surprised by it's refinement. The reviewer should make it clear that this car is being rated a 5.5 when compared to luxury vehicles, and is comparible to both the Camry and Accord at a price that is thousands less. Definitely a must see. Great job, Hyundai!!
