Pros Comfortable. Attractive. High-tech.
Cons Nav sysyem could be more intuitive.
Summary I "moved up" to the RL after having two consecutive TL's that I liked alot and I'm not disappointed.
A note of caution however: DO NOT under any circumstances buy the Acura Music Link for iPod, a $450 dealer installable option. This hardware/software device is a real dog (my dealer is going to refund my money and remove the device, less than a week after I had it installed.) It is clunky, requires intrusive software to be installed on your computer, does not show iPod contents on the Nav screen. A "Not-Quite-Ready-For-Prime-Time" failure which should be taken from the market.
Pros Excellent electronics and features.... MUCH better priced than ANY of the competition...
Cons I would say back seat leg/head room, but it works fine for our family.
Summary This car is simply amazing. Bigger and more powerful engine than M35, GS300, and 5 Series BMWs (525/530). SH-AWD standard is a beautiful thing. NAV display and knob controls are very easy once you spend sometime and learn their methods. I was awaiting the new MDX 07, but after test driving this car and the incredible DISCOUNTS (8K off sticker) I was sold... Other cars listed above would not have a chance competing with the RL price wise...
Pros The technology is well integrated and easy to use
Cons Could handle better in corners
Summary I have driven an RL for over a year. I continue to enjoy the car more and more.
First, the technology......
The technology is amazing. It has more goodies that are better integrated than a Mercedes SL. The blue tooth for the phone, the traffic for the navigation system, the great stereo make this a very enjoyable car to drive. The voice command works very well but is really a toy. It is easier to reach for a knob.
About the ride and handling....
The car could be improved in the way it takes corners or handles on twisty stretches of road. Yes, the "super handling" AWD does kick in on corners, but is does not really suck them in like an Audi. BUT - really big BUT here - How often are you going to slam through a 90 degree corner at 60 MPH? Not often. If you are doing normal driving, this car is great.
During neighborhood driving it never seems too heavy. It is very responsive and the engine throttle sounds are fine. The noise cancelling system keeps the cockpit very quiet.
For highway driving this car blew me away. I recently had it up to 120 MPH for about 20 minutes. It drove solid, quiet and stuck to the pavement. I felt in total control. At 60 - 80 MPH, it is very easy to drive. I have never had a car I enjoyed long distance driving like this RL.
It needs to come with a radar detector. See paragraph above. That was an expensive ticket.
Pros Smooth, quiet, full of tech
Cons sometimes takes time to get power, REPLACEMENT keys
Summary Let me just preface this by saying that I love this car. It is the best one I have ever bought. However, there is one big caveat: If you lose your key, Acura will charge you an astounding $500 to get a new one. I find that obscene. Also, although the HID headlights last a long time, when you have to get them replaced, they cost $170 EACH. IF you are in the market for this type of car, this car is excellent. However, if you are looking for a slightly cheaper alternative, strongly consider the Toyota Avalon
Pros very luxurius ride tones of tech stuff loade it to full
Cons Learning curve not for stupid people lol back seat is bit tight side
Summary best car i have ever owned i started with acura legend - acura rl - acura tl - BMW 330 -and finally Acura Rl 2006 out of all the cars RL is the best. i was looking at audi a6 and BMW 525
and benz e 320 but i think i made wize choice by choosing RL I love HONDA styling and handling.
