    "The New Ultimate Driving Machine"

    by shaund3 on December 3, 2006

Pros: The first car in it's class to beat out the BMW 3 series in almost every category!

    Cons: Fuel Economy

Summary: I drove the BMW 3 Series (328 and 335), I drove the Acura TL, I drove the Lexus IS330 and the Audi A4. I fell in love with the G35. Unlike the 335, the G35 performs even at cruising speeds. I feel that it has more responsive acceleration in normal driving conditions. The interior is classy unlike the cheesy interior found in the BMW, quality, reliability and cost of ownership is better, and it is FAR less expensive. The only thing BMW has over this vehicle is it's name. I feel that in this class the TL has the best interior but does not match up to it's competitors in other categories. Summary: Move over BMW 3 series, finally there is a new king on the block!!! The G35 Sedan, the best car and value in it's class!

How on earth can you debate that the BMW 335 is not significantly more expensive to own than a g35. Who gives a rats a$% if you get free maintenance. So you get your oil changed....wow. that saved you $30 x 4 oil changes a year if you drive 15k miles. So you saved $120!! hahaha. Let's be frank here, the 335 is about 9k more than the g35. Do you not understand how much that is?? Oh wait, I get to save $120 a year on oil changes, that justifies spending 9k more! Not! You're paying for a name my friend. If you want a bonnet on your car and and have something to prove, then go for the 335. If you want the best value for the money, then the g is the obvious winner. By the way, the bmw's interior is quite bland. Call it classic or whatever you want, IMHO it's lame.
However, I will agree with you, the 335's performance is a little better, just not 9k better.
Don't try and compare the bmw 328 against the g. Well, actually you can compare their prices....just not anything else.

Went to trade my 2006 Z for the 2007 Z and hadn't originally planned on getting the G, thought it was a "Plain Jane" but took one for a test drive. Put my emotions aside and used my common sense (unusual when buying a car).

Chose the 2007 G35x with all the upgrade packages except the "Technical". It is a "sensible" car, comfortable with good performance. Tad too much plastic for a "luxury" sedan and the seats are not entirely leather, just the butt surface... shame that Infiniti did that.

The shape though, with the curvy front end (reminiscent of the Z's bad, big brother) with a conventional (admittedly dull) rear end, takes getting used to, I am still not sure.

After one month ownership, I have grown to love the car and am pleasantly surprised to learn that it is widely regarded as top of its class and is definitely a stealth car. I look at it and can not believe the thing will do 160 mph.!

Got to deduct a half a point for the plastic and pretend leather, half a point for the small, awkward trunk and a full point for the heavy gas mileage (sub-20 mpg and I am taking it easy..!).

To begin I do not see how this out performed a 335 in your hands. At any speed the 335 is more powerful. What are "cruising speeds" for you? You say the Infiniti has more responsive acceleration at what you call "normal" speeds? What is that? I figure you must not really know how to drive a 6 speed manual trans very well? Also the BMW is much more precise and does not feel as loose at higher speeds where the Infiniti is sloppy. You probably will not notice that under your "normal" or even "cruising speeds." Also since BMW's maintenance is included for no charge how is this Infiniti FAR less to own? The BMW 335 list price is higher, the 328 is not really so that is all. Where did you get the reliability stats from since both cars have not even been out a year but you say the Infinity is more reliable? There are plenty of service and maintenance issues with past G-35's. The BMW name is worth something for a reason, you get what you pay for.
