"Most satisfying car I've owned"
Pros: Fuel Economy, Quality, Value
Cons: Materials (ok though for price range)
Summary: Most poor reviews are from people that test drove or had a quote well over MSRP. I'm an owner! I "traded down" from an Infiniti FX45 for this and am not disappointed in the quality or materials. I would have liked less plastic, but this is a mid priced, mid size mainstream model.
The BAD: The trunk is smaller than most, but only by about the size of 1 large suitcase. Would suit most needs 95% of the time I'm sure. There is plastic in the interior, but this is a car that you can get in the $26,000 range if you want and that's acceptable.
The Good: I'm averaging 38.5MPG overall. It's comfortable. Mine has moonroof, leather, navigation and 440 watt stereo. All for $31,589 MSRP. That may seem high to some but I was looking at cars in the $37 to $45K range as alternatives and this one satisfies me just as much and it's going to save me a lot. If you're the type that would be satisfied with a 4c stripped Camry then you probably don't want this. But if you normally would buy a $30,000 type of car this won't dissapoint you. In addition to great gas Milage, I will get a $2600 Fed Tax Credit, and expect somewhere around a $3000+ State Tax Credit. That puts this in the $26,000 range. For that price and 38mpg, I consider this the ultimate luxury economy car. Corolla economy, Lexus styling, Toyota quality wrapped up into one vehicle.
A short test drive can't adequately describe the advantages of this car. Talk to someone who's living with it and see if they have any complaints.

I've had my 2007 Hyrbid Camry now one week after my trade-in 1998 Audi A6 black. Best decision in 2007 so far...lets not go there..waaay too pricey to maintain with an expired warranty. My new black beauty has grey leather interior, along with the nav system and all the trimmings. And oh..I've been averaging 36 mpg on my firt free tank of gas from my dealer. After driving 320 miles so far, I still have a half tank to go...YAAHH!! Did anyone mention you can also use 87 octane. Can we do the math folks!! HAPPY HAPPY!

I have owned my Camry Hybrid since late July and I love it. Virtually all of thompja5's comments go for me too. Like his, my Camry is fully loaded with every possible option. I am getting just under 40 mpg right now and my economy has increased steadily as I've learned the tricks of driving this car. I paid MSRP of $31,262 and feel I got a great deal. No complaints but lots of satisfaction.

As an owner for 2 months and 2400 miles, I totally agree with the review. If you have any questions or doubts about the Camry Hybrid, talk with an owner. This purchase has started out well, and I expect my experience will continue. My office mate has had his Prius for 3 years and nearly 40,000 miles. He's not had one problem--I expect the same with my Camry Hybrid.

I own a Camry hybrid and very pleased with my decision to buy one.
I was just about to pull the trigger on an 07 BMW 5 series when I noticed the new body style and checked out the hybrid. The continuously variable transmission was the first thing I noticed...pretty amazing, though I do miss not having options on down-shifting. Is the CVT really maintenance-free?
Initially, I was concerned about the durability of the battery and electrical drive, but the 8-year warranty took care of that.
Mileage meter can be distracting, especially in bumper to bumper traffic when you're averaging 60+ mpg or barely on the throttle at 75 mph and getting the same mileage reading.
I had a Lexus SC (5-sp. manual) Covette C5 (6-spd. manual) so the hybrid is quite a change.
The ride and comfort are excellent, handling and braking are competent, acceleration surprising, and the stock sound system is more than I expected. On top of all this, my fuel bill is half of what it used to be (fuel prices in Hawaii are stupid with diesel costing 15-50 cents a gallon more than premium gas), plus I get the federal income tax credit too.
I like the looks of the car and appreciate the low drag co-efficient.
The trunk cut-out is too narrow to fit a surfboard, but I can work around that with surf racks, or use the pickup.
You need to keep a sharp eye on pedestrians and people in parking lots. Some of us have apparently been conditioned to rely on hearing more than sight when walking and will step off curbs and walk into the roadway not realizing that the car behind them is moving without using an internal combustion engine. Cell phone users seem to be more prone to putting themselves in harm's way.
The only thing I don't like is the lag between pushing the power button and start-up. -
The tax deduction WILL NOT RETURN $2600.00 to your pocket. That's just not going to happen with your Federal Income Tax or the State either.
You'll get a $2600 Federal Tax WRITEOFF, which will translate to, maybe, an $800 dollar adjustment to what you owed the IRS for the year.
That's nice, but it's not $2600 dollars.
You are NOT going to see anything close to $800 back from the State, as their tax rate is far lower than the Federal rate. -
First, let me just state that C/Net's review is full of misinformation on this vehicle. There is no way to select leather instead of cloth without paying $1500 extra. The navigation OPTION is $2500 more-not standard equipment. As for thompja5's assertion that he (or she) is looking forward to a $3000 credit on his (or her) STATE taxes-I just want to know what state that is. There is absolutely no state credit here in North Carolina. AND, unless you pay more than $2600 a year in federal taxes, you will not receive the full benefits of the federal tax credit either. If your federal taxes were just $2000 like mine you can zero them out, but the extra $600 is lost forever.
As for the "lunging" and jerking at highway speeds that one reviewer mentioned-I have not seen that. But there is a great deal of hesitation when trying to pull out into traffic in a hurry-no jackrabbit starts in this car, it just won't do it. It just sits there and shakes like it is scared before finally unwinding. Once it starts to unwind however, the acceleration is impressive. -

If it is as good as our Prius, it is a winner. We just returned from a quick trip of 850 miles to Florida. At 70MPH (or posted limit if lower) we got 49+MPG, return at 65 got 55mpg.
The satisfaction of zero rpm on engine while at a light or in a jam -- priceless. All the while the AC continues from main battery. -
Do you experience the jerk or shift of power when the gas engine kicks in?
