    "This is one misunderstood sedan!"

by Snake Plissken on January 26, 2008

Pros: Build quality, engineered for long term usage with little maintenance. Owners link is very intuitive.

Cons: If I had a con I would not have bought two of them.

Summary: Since 1976 the Honda Accord has been just exactly what Soichiro Honda envisioned it would be. Specifically, ?an accord and harmony between people, society, and the automobile.? The 2008 Accord carries out that philosophy nicely and Mr. Honda would have been extremely proud if he were here today.

The Honda Accord was never intended to be an "enthusiast? car. It was not slated for the Grand Prix circuit, though a lot of its suspension and steering characteristics do come directly from Honda Racing and that?s not too bad a pedigree to have.

If you want to tool around the mountains and blow the doors off a few sedans or coupes, buy the S2000. I hear that model came straight off the racetrack to the dealer showrooms.

Both of our Accord EX-L V6 sedans have double-take good looks. From the leather seats to the Michelin tires, from the smooth V6 acceleration to the grade controlled automatic transmission, and from the chrome tail pipe treatments to the chromed grille the car exudes class and delivers it at a reasonable price. The interior quality is fantastic and the dash contains some of the most intuitive array of buttons and displays that I have ever seen.

It is surprising to me that some reviewers, who actually claim to be technological aficionados (CNET), had a problem with the dash?s layout and I found it extraordinary that the same review managed to include an amazing six-paragraphs on an ECO light. That was a first for the Accord reviews I had read to date. Congratulations on your zeal for gadgetry, but maybe the auto reviews should be left to the people who actually took auto shop in high school and not computer science?

And why the two Accords? Well after seeing that our first Accord was one tough act to follow, that my wife?s car was possibly on the brink of expensive repairs, and that my wife literally stole the first car from me, I was forced (wink-wink) into making a second purchase of an Accord of my very own. Outside of adding a navigation system to mine, you cannot tell a difference in build or overall ride quality between the two cars, and that type of consistency speaks volumes to me. Thanks Soichiro!
