Pros Great performance
Fantastic handling and brakes (I was shocked)
Very spacious (larger then my old 5 series and saab 9-5)
Fuel economy can be decent (it is a V8!) -computer says I've averaged 22.3mpg @ 61.4 avg mph in highway AND NYC driving .
Cons No Nav system!!! Its available on the car in other markets - why did GM choose not to bring it here?
Fuel economy can drop like a rock when you push the big V8.
Does not have panache of its competitors
Seats should have electric recline
Summary This is great car enthusiasts car. Frankly its a poor mans BMW 550/M5 - or a tuned down but much larger CTS-V. The fit and finish are very good for the price, but does not run in the $65K+ category.
Its a shame its no longer sold in the US. It is obvious why Pontiac was shut down - option choices at dealerships did not match what buyers really wanted and key options that people want were not made available in the US - and people wonder why GM is in bad shape.
As for models - GXP is overkill for most people - and IMHO the GT provides the best compromise between performance and fuel economy if you use the car everyday like I do to drive 80 miles each way a couple of times a week into NYC.
In the end analysis - a smile is only a press of the gas pedal away and/or a fast sweeping corner. Then when you need to be practical - you can carry passengers in comfort and the trunk swallows lots of stuff! Its practical and fun and is not overpriced (including insurance)!
Pros Great handling, power, styling, looks great on the outside and handles like a dream
Cons Would like to have seen bluetooth option for phone, also navigation instead of forcing on star option as extra expense for both navigation and basically they wanting to get you to use their cell service.
Summary Great car, couple of tweeks and should resurrect the line under the impala name.
Pros Power to go 0-60 in less than 6 seconds plus incredible looks. Handling is excellent. One of the reason I purchased this car is the price. I got it for a little over 26.5k
Cons Battery and Oil Pressure Display, door side cup holders are a little awkward given that they tilt inward toward the seat, meaning if the lid comes loose on the cup you've got drink in the floorboard. Trunk Release in the Glovebox.
Summary I've own my G8 GT since November 08. I average 19.4 miles per gallon in a mix of city and highway driving. Overall build quality is good. Fit and finish of this interior could be improve but generally it's good. The Blaupunk Stereo, from what other reviewer say as being difficult to use, I found to be very easy to get programed and operate. I absolutely love the climate control system, I've had this on other vehicles and this one works so much better than the car I own previously. Onstar service is ok but a little pricey for the annual subscription, which the only advantage is the monthly reporting on the systems diagnostic for the car. Which alerts you to issues with the vehicle.
Pros Styling, Power, Handling (for a a 4000 + lb car) and enough room for adults over 6 feet tall.
Cons Available options for the 2008 (Can't get 19 in wheels w/all-season radials). Quirky Australian controls held over (window controls near the shifter, etc.)
Summary Bottom line, next to the CTS-V, this is the best four door sports car that a domestic car company has ever made. I don't know about these guys doing the testing, but I average 20.4 mpg in my 08 and that includes plenty of play time. It's simply a steal at this price point.
Pros Price, performance, muscular good looks. The car has it all!
Cons The Atari readout in the center of the dash should have been reconsidered.
Summary Go test drive this car and find out for yourself why the G8 is one of the best values in the auto market today...
