"This car is not what the reviewer described" on by jacksnow2

Pros: too many to name. Read the bottom line summary.

Cons: It doesn't have the brand cache

Summary: This review doesn't have a clue about why the Genesis won the NACOTR. For the quality of car you get, it only costs 38K for the full V8 375 HP with nice suave leather seat. With the Tech package, this becomes a car that competes with the 5 class, the E class, GS series, the RL series. I've compared all and for 38K, you can not find a better deal. 5 stars because this car has changed the game.

For the lack of brand cache, I'll admit, some people are snobs and will want the BMW or mercedes association. For others, this car offers a chance without luxury without the price tag. quite frankly, Many people won't go for the prestige and go for what is right in the wallet.

On agility test, the car did excellent, the reviewer did not to skid pad test, nor cone to cone drills. On average, the Genesis averaged over 65MPG on the cones and
just under 1.00G on the skid pad. That is excellent and competes with the BMW 5 series pound for pound.

With the Lexicon 17 speaker stereo system. It is beyond good. It is great. A true selling point for audiophiles. There is a deep bass with groveling treble that sounds just pristine enough to make it a very enjoyable exeperience. On top of that, it is ipod adaptable and is connected to the on screen board of the Genesis. Once again, the reviewer fails to mention the outstanding sound quality.

The Ride is extremely quite. It yields one of the lowest decibals for indoor noise in its class. Once again, a great selling point for long trips and people who like quiet environments. Cruising environments reaches level just below 70 Db. It has all the high tech noise reducing materials uniquely Hyundai.

As for the negatives, they are like nit-picks. How could a slight against the navigation unit or an address book error cause 1 and 1/2 stars. the navigation unit is well lit, the panels are back lit. The LCD unit is very easy to function and is just the right size for your viewing pleasures. Once again, a very nit-picking flaw.

Overall, the Genesis is the best car for the buck anywhere. The true essence of Luxury is found immediately when set foot on the nice leather seats and immensely enjoyable driving pleasure. To add to refinement, it is very safe, very high tech, and
very pracical at all levels of design. The build structure is A+ and the unibody build really gives handling an advantage, unlike what the reviewer stated. Don't listen to the reviewer. FInd out yourself by looking into it. I bet you'll be surprised.

"Performance/luxury bargain of the decade!" on by kayone73

Pros: 1. Attractrive, if derivative, understated good looks
    2. Smooth, and powerful V8 drivetrain
    3. Excellent handling and road manners for car in its size class
    4. Great features package: BT, nav, etc, radar parking
    5. Plenty of backseat/trunk space

Cons: 1. Hyundai badge stigma (if you really care that much about those things)
    2. iPod integration not perfect: unable to shuffle playlists
    3. cooling only driver's seat, not passenger seat

Summary: Hyundai really shatters the stereotype and stigma of korean automobiles with the Genesis sedan, regardless of which engine you pick. Based on its size and features, this car is clearly designed to compete with a variety of mid size luxury RWD Japanese and German rivals including the Lexus GS, Infiniti M, MB E Class, 5 series and the A6. Feature for feature, the Genesis easily beats all of these rivals in price by $15K or more, and for a fully loaded V8 with the technology package (I paid barely ver $41K including tax, title and destination fees) you get a car with unbelievable fit/finish, quality, options and performance.

My previous 3 cars have all been Subaru's because I was a fan of the import/modification scene but as I've gotten older and my priorities changed, I was looking for a car that offered more luxury and space without sacrificing too much performance. Yet all the usual suspects I shopped for cost at least $50K to start, but when I started researching into the Genesis sedan, the more I read the more I liked about it. When I got to check out a production model at the local auto show and took a test drive later a few things stood out in my mind: the enormous rear seat legroom (something one would expect in a long wheelbase LS or S Class) and a rear trunk mounted battery (again something only seen in german performance sedans).

Driving this car in city streets and highways is relaxing yet engaging with suspension that's firm without being overly stiff, which is expect for a car in this class. Adjustable suspension that alternates between sport and comfort modes would have been nice, but at this price range, not necessary. On smooth freeways the interior is nearly whisper quiet but at full throttle you can hear some of the V8 exhaust note. Steering is surprisingly heavy at low speeds which makes the driver feel more connected to the road and despite the large size, the Genesis is very nimble and maneuverable thru tight parking lots and streets. Turning circle is also impressive, much better than most asian cars i've drive, able to clear a 2 lane street at a U turn in full lock where I was forced to do 3 point turns in smaller japanese sedans. While urban driving is mostly effortless and relaxing, the Genesis is also very fun to drive in the mountain twisty roads, as I've discovered in a 400 mile road trip from LA to the mountains to Santa Cruz, and it steers with more confidence and less understeer than my previous cars.

Interior features include a fantastic bluetooth handsfree system which is loud and clear when paired up to my iPhone. As long as BT is activated in my phone it automatically pairs up with my car's system as soon as I step in. Voice clarity is superior to any headset I've used and most callers have no idea I was speaking to them on speakerphone. The iPod integration is done via special cable, enabling control of iPod playback thru the nav screen interface and it works very well, however my only real gripe is the inability to use a 'shuffle' playback mode, everything plays in the order songs are listed on my playlists. Hopefully a simple software upgrade can fix this. The HD based navigation system is also great and easy to use despite being non touchscreen (which i actually prefer) and the rotary knob input is very easy to use and quite intuitive. Best of all, the system allows input of addresses while the car is in motion. I can go on endlessly about the features, but they are top notch for a car in this class and price range.

I suspect this car will be seen as a serious game changer in the industry, much like the original Lexus LS was almost 20 years ago.

"Bought this as my first car" on by printprincess

Pros: Beautiful styling, luxurious look and feel, excellent price

Cons: None that I can think of other than they should have made this car available sooner.

Summary: I absolutely love this car!!!! I just picked it up from the dealership yesterday and haven't been able to keep my hands off of it. As someone who has driven A LOT of luxury cars, I can say with a certain degree of confidence that this car is able to keep up with them on many levels. It's wonderfully designed and aesthetically attractive (I was parked on Fifth Avenue in Manhattan and several people came up to me and asked me what kind of car it was). My best friend actually pointed this car out to me and said we have to go see it. He is someone who has owned several BMW's over his lifetime and even he has to say that this car is just as luxurious. It looks and feels like a car that is worth far more than it is priced for. I have to admit that in the past you couldn't have paid me enough to drive a Hyundai, but after buying and driving this car, my opinion has changed drastically. The ride is so quiet and smooth. When the car is in park, the engine is so quiet I forgot the car was on. The Nav controls are easy to work, the sound system is AMAZING, the leather seats are supple and comfy, the cabin is spacious, and the ride and handling are wonderful. I read in one review that one con is the rear seat doesn't fold down, but the trunk is so huge, there really isn't a need for it. I can't say enough great things about this car. Of course it's no Mercedes or BMW, but at this price and this level of comfort and technology, who cares? In my opinion, the only difference between this car and the other two is the additional $12,000 you would spend to buy the brand.

"Vary Happy with the Car - Owner for 3 Months" on by bguhasarkar

Pros: Unbelievable Value, 23Mpg highway, incredible sound system (my iPod Touch sounds incredible in the car), heated seats are great, cooled seat is nice too, rear seats are voluminous and very comfortable, tires are grippy

Cons: As Brian mentioned, the handling is surely not as taut as a smaller BMW 3-series, but it is pretty darn good. When I push it on the highway, its very responsive. Most people are never going to push this car the same way as Brian did on curved roads.

Summary: Look, this is hands-down the best deal in the industry right now. You get an incredible car for $40,000 USD. This is the perfect car for this economy. Have fun and yet be judicious about your expenses. Hyundai is offering a 24 - month lease for $529/month, which makes this car a no-brainer. Clearly, the designers, engineers, and manufacturing of Hyundai have done a lot of hard work on this project. It really is an awesome car and proves that competition is great for consumers.

"Genesis deserves the North American Car of the Year" on by sabbasaun

Pros: 1) Great performance and overall handling
    2) Tech package w/Nav and Lexicon sound is superb
    3) Driver Information System (DIS) is easy to use and intuitive
    4) Interior quality on par with BMW, Mercedes, Lexus.
    5) Very quiet cabin

Cons: 1)Suspension needs tweaking in certain conditions (Spirited driving)
2)Bluetooth needs enhancement (No auto contact import)
3)Needs tranny that shifts faster or a "Sport" mode
4)Exterior styling needs to better differentiate between competitors

Summary: The review by Wayne Cunningham is flawed in many ways and although he mentions going into this review with an open mind his prejudices and/or lack of knowledge come glaring through in his review of the Genesis even though he had positive things to say.

For example his comparisons vehicles are all over the place. 1st, he brings up the S-Class Mercedes, a vehicle that starts out around $86,000. He should have used the E550 as it better matches the Genesis in size, features and performance. 2nd, he brings up another out of class vehicle: the Lincoln MKS. Seriously? This car is only available with a V6 and is FWD. Even despite this the MKS still gets lower EPA mpg than the V8 Genesis. Wayne?s bias really shines through as he raves about the MKS? ?flat black plastic? on the console and dash of the MKS but on the Genesis he doesn?t even mention the leather dash inserts and wood inserts that is used on the Tech package. Leather (not ?soft plastic?) is nicely done everwhere on the Genesis. The only similarities to the MKS is the price tag. Ridiculous.

The truth of the matter is this is Hyundai?s first attempt at a luxury vehicle. It?s not perfect, but it is still pretty close to the luxury vehicles from BMW, Mercedes and Lexus in terms of quality, features and performance. Similary optioned, these other cars are at LEAST $20,000+ more. When you factor in everything you not only get a car that is on par with the above mentioned cars, but you get a GREAT value. That is why it won North American Car of the Year.
