"OK car but nothing to brag about"
Pros: Its a Toyota, large trunk for small car. Great! MPG's. Responsive engine and trans.
Cons: Do not electric power steering on this car. Have it on our 2007 Rav4 and its fine. This must have a different manufacture because you are constantly making incremental adjustments. Radio reception is very directional because antenna is in rear glass.
Summary: So Toyota I think has tried to decide the best option and features to go with and yet keep the price down. I like the fact that ABS is standard and my LE even has traction control. I think I may need it with the electric steering. One note for DIY people is that the oil filter is now a cartridge type filer and not a spin on. I have to say the ride quality is not what I would have expected. The car is not that stable in curves and so you would think that would suggest a better ride. Nope! its just the opposite. In the midwest the road bumps really get to you after a long drive. I noticed Toyota does not indicate gas front struts only front struts. So I am thinking a cheaper strut must have been used. So its definitely not a car to push. I must say after driving a Vibe with the older 1.8 liter I could not tell a big difference in the new engine. The extra Variable valve timing does not make a big deal driving it. But then the spec's don't show it. All in all this is unfortunately a car for basic transportation and nothing more. Whereas a Honda Civic has spent more time refining Toyota has spent more time being safe on its design and engineering. That's too bad because the styling is really good but indicates a more sporty car then the Corolla is.
So in closing, the Corolla won't set your driver heart a racing but it won't lull you to sleep. Its stuck right in the middle where it has been. That's a shame that Toyota does not get a little more risky. They are starting to look like the Buick of the imports.
