Pros When equipped with a manual transmission and SH-AWD, this car has been tuned to be a great daily driver for someone who loves performance sedans. It has a luxurious interior with well integrated technology, including a class-leading audio system.
Cons Steering slightly numb/overboosted at low speeds. Bluetooth voice dialing not intuitive to set up/use. Takes a while to master the center stack. Polarizing styling.
Summary As an owner of a 2006 TSX with a manual transmission, I had driven the new TL in both regular and SH-AWD trim with an automatic as loaners, and was left non-plussed - it had seemed that Acura had abandoned their enthusiast base and gone off to build "sporty" luxury cars.
When Acura released the TL with a manual, they made changes to the chassis, steering and suspension, all with enthusiasts in mind. They let a bunch of automotive journalists loose with it and other vehicles in it's competitive set (and slightly above, if you ask me.) They included cars such as the BMW 335ix, the Infiniti G37x and the Audi S4, and let the journalists lap the track for the best times. The TL got high marks in drivability from the various journalists and consistently had some of the lowest lap times, which got my attention. I continued to pay attention as Road and Track added one to their long term ters fleet (with glowing reviews), Automobile Magazine compared the vehicle favorably with an S4 in a comparison test and Autoweek and Edmunds gave thorough and favorable reviews. Finally, I figured out after seeing some TLs on the road, if you build the car in black or silver, the schnoz isn't that objectionable.
After an extended test drive, I bought a black SH-AWD MT about a month ago and couldn't be happier. I highly recommend cross-shopping this car if you are in its target market.
Pros This is my second Acura I owned the 2008 before this 2009 SHAWD HPT 19", and I love this much more, but I drove the new BMW 5 series and the new 2010 Audi A6 and they still handle and feel and everything is better about them excpet the price tag :)
Cons Interiors not comparable to BMW 5 Series or Audi A6,,, but here becareful because recently I had an A4 loaner because I have Audi Q7 which had an issue as usual, a lemon :),,, and A4 doesn't in any way compare to acura TL SHAWD
Summary 3 Series and A4 don't compare at all to Acura TSHAWD and they still have the same price tag when fully loaded and this is why it is a much better value to buy the Acura then,,, but please don't compare the 5 series or the A6 because not fair for the Aura TL SHAWD with this price tag,,,, but those 2 cars really drive a lot better than the Acura especially the new 5 series 2011 which I test drove and it wasn't even an XI just 335i and still handled and drove and felt way better than my acura,,,, but again the A4 2010 was really really bad comparted to my Acura, I felt a huge downgrade, actually I was shocked at how much better my Acura handles!!!!It did grow more in me I guess

And I was shopping recently or Audi A6 2011 and test drive it, a little softer, not faster, more luxurious for sure but somehow felt dash outdated compared to the Acura though better materials in Audi, I failed to pull the trigger because of 2 things, how much difference which I deemed not merited at all for I will get and second that Audi A6 will be replaced very soon by a nicer looking A6 totally redesigned which I may buy unless Acura again does it and able to forcee buy their Out Of This Earth looking cars -:)
Pros Reliability, Resale Value, Good Drive & Ride Quality (the two are NOT incompatible), distinctive (not another Lexus), AND I like the "ugly" front end - looks I'm going to eat the car ahead of me as I pass it (with ease) :-)
Cons Interior is a bit blase (very Honda), pricey maintenance, car is sometimes confused by two sets of keys (which driver is driving?) when it chooses seat/mirror settings
Summary Best combination of value, performance, and prestige for your money.
Pros Fit, Finish, general engineering. Great 6 spd manual transmissions throughout the line. Durable drive lines. Fun to drive, but a little heavy/plodding on very twisty, turny roads. Previous Acuras were reliable w/low maintenance costs initially.
Cons Ugly nose and tail, odd and excessively large controller in the middle of the console (all 2010 models) Very poor fuel efficiency. Cost was a deal breaker for me as I wanted AWL in my next vehicle and this option is very expensive.
Summary I recently purchased a Subaru Legacy 2.5GT instead of one of these. About $10K less, and much better interior design, and tolerable if not handsome exterior. I am a former RSX type S owner and pondered hard before switching brands.
Pros stlyling ,transmissions sh awd performance roomy and really fast and great handling comfortable value
Cons automatic has no 6th gear pcs or blind spot warning
Summary the tl is outstanding sport seden just dont ask about a 6 speed auto
