  • "Best Car I've ever owned"
    on by mustangsrule

Pros It is so smooth and quiet. The gas mileage is amazing. I average 36-38 under normal driving conditions. I can break 40 with easy driving and minimal A/C usage. The stereo sounds great and I'm picky about that. I love the HUGE sunroof, I use it daily.

Cons The only things that bother me about the car are that there aren't memory cooled seats. These are available on the Optima, so you'd think the parent company would offer them. It would be nice if there was a way to control when the engine came on.

Summary This car looks amazing in person and drives like a dream. I don't regret buying it at all and recommend it to anyone thinking about getting a hybrid. I've driven several different hybrids and this is the closest one to a "normal" car driving experience.

I've now owned this car for 7 months. It's been in the shop 11 different times. They finally issued a recall for the check engine light and since the computer update that went along with that, I've been averaging 29 mpg. Not exactly hybrid territory or even close to the advertised ratings. I also had a stint of the car not starting so it had to be towed three separate times to be fixed. Hyundai will not do anything for me until it qualifies as a lemon. I am updating my score to a 1 star and do not recommend buying this car.

  • "Nice hybrid"
    on by parismetro

Pros Sharp looking car, with enough exterior styling notes to differentiate it from the standard Sonata. Fit and finish of the interior is great, and the car is comfortable and roomy. Car has a lot of technology stuff, but learning to use most was intuitive

Cons This car replaces a V6 Jetta, so it took a while to get used to. Slow off the green light, car feels heavy and doesn't handle that well on turns. I got the upgrade package -- it's nice but I have a wish list: 3D navigation, memory for driver's side se

  • "Very happy with my first hybrid!"
    on by RandyWayne

Pros It is extremely comfortable inside and being a Hyundai, is also very quiet as well. It took a few hundred miles of practice but I am consistently getting 34-35 miles per gallon in mixed city and highway, and doing it WITHOUT being the annoying person who

Cons Just as it is mentioned in the video you are very aware of the mode changes as they occur while driving. You don't actually feel the clutch going in and out but you notice the sudden slight increases -and decreases, in power, often happening every couple

Summary I wanted a car with good mileage (obviously) AND adequate power for passing and flying up on ramps while reaching highway speeds. I also wanted it to look good and not like a certain other little electric/gas car who manufactures first initial rhymes with P (which stands for Pool!).
I didn't go for the extra option package since five grand extra was a little too much to swallow. I wish I could have bought the infinity sound system by itself.... oh well.

  • "Very stylish with good technology, unsatisfactory ride."
    on by GlennWSRQ

Pros Integrated GPS works well and the vehicle is great to look at.

Cons Not a smooth ride and poor support from Hyundai. Being told that the "jerkiness is normal and I need to accept it is unacceptable.

Summary The 2011 Sonata Hybrid is a very stylish car with nice features and technology, unfortunately it does not drive well. I previously owned a Toyota Camry Hybrid and drove it for just over 3 years having bought it new. The MPGs and smoothness of Camry was much better than the 2011 Sonata Hybrid which I purchased new in December 2011.

My Hyundai dealership, Gettel Hyundai Sarasota, Fl has been able to confirm the "jerkiness" of my Sonata Hybrid at low speeds and after having it in the workshop for 2 weeks (May 1 to 15, 2012) confirmed that this is how all 2011 Sonata Hybrids perform and I need to accept it. Computer upgrades were done with no improvement.

I have tried to escalate this problem through Hyundai USA and they categorically deny the problem.

The 2011 Sonata Hybrid is not a pleasure to drive and I am sorry that I switched from the Camry Hybrid to the Sonata Hybrid. I currently have 6,000 miles on the Sonata and am looking forward to when it reaches 100,000 so that I can get rid of it unless Hyundai comes up with a solution and then I will be satisfied.

Several people have asked me about my Sonata as they liked the look of it and I told them truthfully that it looks great and has good technology but does not drive well and I would not recommend that anyone buys this vehicle.
