  • "Phenominal car for the money !"
    on by buckyb73

Pros Everything - styling, interior comfort, fit, finish, and material quality and features, fuel economy, overall ride comfort.

Cons A slightly softer seat might be nice, but I kind of prefer a firmer seat. Headroom with the panoramic sunroom is a little tight but is not a deal breaker for me.

Summary I purchased a fully loaded (Premium and Technology packages) EX 2.0 Turbo, and couldn't be happier. I traded in a 2009 Mazda 6 GT, got a great trade-in value that made this move attractive, and I haven't regretted it. My wife just loves her Kia Sorento, so we have had good experiences already with Kia. So far, with 3,000 + miles, I have zero complaints. My specific likes:
1 - Styling - no matter where I am, I always get admiring looks - this car is really a head turner.
2 - Interior Comfort and Features - For a car listing under $30,000, you would never know it when you're behind the wheel. Fit, finish, and material quality are all top notch. A good feel to all the controls, attractive leather trim, phenominal panoramic sunroof (even with the reduced headroom), wonderful heated AND cooled seats (it has to be experienced to be appreciated), lots of legroom front and back, and a great audio system (see #3)
3 - Navigation and Audio System - Contrary to some reviews I've read, I think the Nav system in the Optima is great. While it may not have all the voice commands available with Kia's UVO system or Ford's SYNC system, it has more than enough for me. I can verbally tune the stereo, use my Bluetooth phone verbally, and verbally control almost every feature of the navigation system. True, I can't verbally control the climate system (Wow - big deal !), but who really cares. Also, while the graphics on the nav screen aren't as nice as on a dash mounted Garmin system, they are still more than adequate and ever offer a few nice features that Garmin does have, and in the end, this system is just as accurate for navigation purposes (plus, no cords dangling from your dash or windshield). The Infinity sound system is wonderful, and the back-up camera is as good as any I have seen on a $50,000+ car.
4 - Fuel Economy - While it is true that I only have just over 3,000 miles on the Optima, the fuel economy has been great so far. With less than 500 miles on the car, I went on a 600 mile trip, where I got an overall mileage figure of 34.1 MPG, with over 37 MPG on a 200+ mile stretch of an interstate highway. All this with a 274 HP turbocharged 4 cylinder engine. What more can I say.
5 - Ride Comfort - Overall, the Optima ride has been great. Of course, it isn't a Lexus, but I am more than satisfied. It rides better than my Mazda6, which I was happy with. I really liked the look of the upgraded 18" wheels on the Optima SX, but upon test driving it, I decided on the EX Turbo instead. The ride on the SX was harsher, with the lower aspect ratio, softer 18" tires that no doubt wear faster and which are much more costly to replace. Overall, the EX rode smoother, and I still had the power benefits of the turbo engine that is in the SX model.

I could go on much more, but in summary, I think the Optima is a great car for the money. Watch out Toyota and Honda - Kia is coming up fast in your rearview mirror

  • "absolutely love this car, after 3 sonotas i am impressed"
    on by rbrmil69

Pros everything i like in a car is in or on this kia. at this price, with this warranty, add 31.4 mpg combined @ 3200 miles since i've owned it, i can't see why anyone that is looking to buy a midsized sedan, would not give this car a try. sooooo many features

Cons if there is one thing that i wish were just a little different, i like a little softer seat, however it will do just fine, and a foam cushion could fix that.

Summary at 72 yrs. old i have driven just about everthing out there below $45.000- $50,000. this car is the best car i have ever owned bar none. it has more features than any car that i am aware of in this price range, and has styling that i enjoy. i have had so many people ask me what i think about this new kia, they are blown away when i tell them what it includes, some of their remarks, like omg, i don't even have that in my mercedes, or my lexus. makes me feel that i made a good choice. when i bought my first sonota no one had one in my area .it was a 2002 model that was a real breakthru model for hyundai. i feel this kia optima is kia's breakthru model, and i see a great future for kia ahead.

  • "Great acceleration and comfort, 34+mpg at hwy speeds"
    on by epfannkuche242

Pros Bought EX turbo fully loaded, couldn't justify extra expense of SX, love this car already got 4,000 miles on it, excellent accleration thru the mountians of TN even with 4 adults and luggage, Passing acceleration great, 50 to 110 (not intentional) very qu

Cons Dealer's "Area Market Value" $3000.00 price gouge, charging $500.00 for mudflags and expectation to get full MSRP

Summary Great performance and value for the money, well designed car inside and outside, very clean body lines. I have had numerous people stop me and ask who makes my car and were amazed that it's a KIA
