"Great looking car at a great price! Lots of tech!"4.0 starson by rbbcpa
Pros: Technology package is great. Bluetooth, navi and satellite radio. Bluetooth even has A2DP connectivity. Tiptronic and sport-mode transmission give this car some "get up and go"! Great gas mileage.
Cons: Manual seats and low center console armrest.
Summary: My daughter got her driver's license a couple of months ago so I had to make a decision to purchase her a cheap car or hand her down my 2004 Maxima with 187k miles. I commute 110 miles a day so I decided to give her the Maxima and purchase the Jetta. Prior to purchasing the Jetta, I had never driven or even ridden in a Volkswagen. One night, my wife and I saw a commercial for the Jetta, which featured the Intelligent Crash Response features, and she commented that I should check the Jetta. I test drove an SEL (w/o the Sport Package) in Houston and instantly fell in love with the car. The ride is solid and the car is very well-equipped. My 2004 Maxima had all the bells and whistles available at the time and the Jetta has features that the Maxima didn't have (e.g. Bluetooth, navi and turn indicators on the mirrors, to name a few). I've read several reviews from previous Jetta owners who complain about the quality of the interior materials, however, I think that the interior is on par with both my Maxima and 2009 Honda Odyssey. The leatherette seats have the look and feel of real leather and are well designed. The leather-wrapped steering wheel and e-brake both add a distinctive look to the cockpit. The heated seats (even in Texas) are a nice touch.
I ended up flying to McKinney, Texas on the same day I test drove the SEL in Houston to purchase my Silver Jetta SEL with the Sport Package and I have absolutely no regrets. Everyone who has seen my Jetta has commented on how sharp the car looks, even commenting that it looks like an Audi A4 from the rear. IMHO, you can't go wrong this car.
