"Wonderful if...." on by ebbing_hope
Pros: Pleasing mids, and pleasantly tapered highs.
Cons: Nothing that can't be fixed.
Summary: I see a bunch of comments here about no bass. Okay, they're little 2.5" drivers. Here's how to fix it (for $50 in my case):
Go to ebay / pawn shop / Goodwill / wherever.... Find an Bose Acoustimass 5 subwoofer (or equiv, mine is a Series II). You're looking for dual woofers inside with Cube outputs on the back . Attach your 161's to the cube outputs (these carry the same 2 pcs x 2.5 inch speakers as the cubes), and inputs to amplifier. The Bass module will cross over your 161's at an appropriate frequency (seems about 100hz) to allow higher absolute output.
Sounds great in my living room with a Dynaco ST70.
Hope this helps.... -
"Great Speakers to replace stock computers speakers" on by soulitary
Pros: Absolutely wonderful sound, very small. sleek and stylish
Cons: A bit Heavy. Sit on flat surfaces awkwardly.
Summary: These are a great pair of speakers. I have a Creaitve Gigaworks s750 and used to have a logitech z-680. I use these on both system to replace the two front speakers because as everyone knows computer speakers dont exactly have the best sound. But after adding these. WOW. everything sounds great especially at very high volume!
