Pros Sounds are all around you & not in your face like others.
Cons Could use a little more mid range & a little less bass for movies.
Summary I went to circuit city & listen to 16 different speakers in a home style theatre system. These 16 different speakers all where positioned as front speakers in a home theatre system. I tried every type out while watching x-men. The receiver pushing was an Onkyo tx-sr674(approx 100watts per channel), center speaker was a boston acoustic vrc, & the subwoofer was a Velodyne 12" dps12. With the volume at full blast in a room size approx. 15x18 the bose 201v had no distortion & can be load enough that you cant hear the person speaking next to you. I also listen to music through all the front speakers & again found that these speakers had the best sound quality. The only speakers that sounded just a slight bit better was the bose 301v. Considering the price difference between the 301v & the 201v & the sound difference I definitely stand by the 201v as a better choice. Unless you have the money to spare then buy the 301v. I also notice that these speakers dont scream at you like other speakers will. The sound seems to be all around you & not in your face. I also like the construction of the speakers, they are heavy & well built. I found them to be best for music & great for movies but on the movie side they do seem to produce a little more bass then I think is needed. They could use a little more mid range but I didnt adjust the receiver so it could be just the receiver setting. Although the 301v seem to have better mid range. I hope this helps.
Pros Compact and stylish design. No sweet spot, I can listen from any seat in the room. Nice balanced sound, not too much bass.
Cons No video shielding.
Pros Crisp Sounding Highs, Overall Great Sound, Low Price
Cons Need a sub to supply bass
Summary For speakers with a retail price under $300 I believe that the Bose 201 Series V are a sure pick. I plan to buy some Infinity Beta 40 or 50s to use as my fronts to supply more bass and I will move these to my rears. If you have a sub these are a great buy!!
Pros Good bass, Overall pretty good sound. Very nice looking speakers.
Cons No midrange. No banana connectors.
Pros Good bass, look good, have good high's, and they don't have a sweet spot.
Cons I really don't see any cons.
Summary For those who think their is a lack of bass, I would like to say that i disagree. For one they are well balanced and for two you don't have to go and spend money on a sub. My stereo system has a extra bass feature that i think makes a substantial difference.
