    "Better Out There"

    by mikeste101 on January 16, 2007

Pros: Mids are always excellent with bose it seems

Cons: Paper everything, Soundstage is very strange, Bass is downright muddy.

Summary: I have as I said in my other reviews with Bose, some products are worthwhile and others can be worthless. If you feel better when you come home from a hard days work and want to listen to quality music and look up at your BOSE speakers than good for you, but if you can get past comming home to a bose product not being there check out the rest of the speaker world. JBL is a far better choice when comparing speaker companies. Or for the price this speaker is in check out your Stereophile magazine and you will see a difference in what type of quality you get for the same price. An 8" woofer is not always the best choice. There are 5" woofers that produce deeper bass, because of its cabinet design and crossover on the board. Even after I listen to a speaker, I tear it down inspecting the internal componets. Open a Bose, than open a BIC Venturi DV62SI. Tell me the difference for price as well as listening to them. I'll bet you behind an acoustic cloth with out seeing you will find the BIC to be a better value and Performing speaker than these. The Bose 301 V utilize dual 2" cone tweeters which are made of paper as is the 8" woofer. The tweeters at loud or louder music will start to detoriate because a paper cone can only produce to 16 KHZ. The ears can extend to 22KHZ. In order to produce that KHZ range you need products such as textile, aluminum, Ti, Silk, etc. Direct Reflecting to me is confusing at best. Placement is truly difficult. When you go to to an indoor concert which way are all the speaker cones facing? I find that whichever way you put these speakers the soundstage can be very hollow of bass, which is also muddy. Every home will sound different. I recommend products from Energy and Mirage. yuo will not get an 8" woofer, but as I said that means nothing. Listen really carefully and you will find a better choice.
