"Great quality and performance for music - especially classical, vocal, and acoustic."
Pros: Good looking (cherry). I think the veneer looks classy, not cheap. Metal grills are functional and don't dampen the sound much at all. Bright, clear highs and mid-range. Bass is tight.
Cons: Bass range is a little short - needs a sub for music.
Summary: Bought these for $480/pr. Not yet broken in, pushed with Yamaha rx797 100w/ch. The highs and mid are very clear and bright. Vocal music sounds like it is on stage. The location is very precise. Classical music is bright but lacks the bottom that a live symphony would provide. Cellos are rich but the basses sound at their 1st overtone on the low notes. Acoustic guitars and pianos are realistic and, again, the soundstage is across the speaker span.
I use these speakers only for music and they do need a sub-woofer to support the lows. I use a PS-12 and it seemlessly integrates with the Beta-50 woofers. I don't have the speakers in ideal positions because of decor but the sound does fill the room nicely. I found a little better sound focus when they point slightly inward. It prevents some reflection off of the side walls. Backing the speakers against the walls increases the bass but it becomes a little boomy. Better to use them with a sub. I have had to tone down the brightness a little with the amp. I won't pass final judgement for about a month, but so far, so good.
