The BX5a refines M-Audio's highly acclaimed BX5 near-field reference monitors, renowned for packing a lot of punch for their size. M-Audio's new 5" low-frequency driver cones are crafted from Kevlar, an extremely resilient material typically found in much more expensive monitors. Curved cone design coupled with high-temperature voice coils and damped rubber surrounds deliver incredible fidelity and durability. The 1" high-frequency drivers' magnetically shielded natural silk domes produce crisp top end while still being gentle on the ears. Good basic monitors
Pros: Extremely clear
Cons: slightly treble heavy

I bought these a couple months back for a home studio and was thoroughly impressed. M-audio did a great job of making these crystal clear monitors at a great price and size. No complaints other than the bass isn't as responsive as I would like (frequency tests get really quiet around 30 Hz and below). So, if you have a sub, great monitors...if not...just keep the lack of bass in mind. I definitely think they are worth the money and do a great job especially for their size. I would recommend for a home studio of personal speakers. I would only recommend for serious audio engineers as a secondary reference for audio comparison (I have found the highs to be clearer than the Alesis monitors we have in our other studio).

Excellent budget studio monitors
Pros: Fairly decent musical insight and accuracy, good detail, good soundstage
Cons: As expected for their size: lack of deep bass and dynamic range

I use them in my office as a budget hi-fi system, paired with the new E-MU 0404 USB soundcard.
Having some experience with older M-Audio models I didn't expect much from these mini-monitors.
Their sound pretty much came as a good surprize for me.
They have the detail and focus of much pricier monitors, very neural across the frequency range, lack of any sharp edges from the new tweeter(ever so present in the older range) and proved themselves quite friendly with room placement (proper speaker stands are a must if you want to hear what they're capable of!!!).
Overall excellent price/performance ratio.
