  • "Audiophile peformance for pennies on the dollar!"
    on by graviton13

    Pros accurate 4-way design

Cons "Sony" name will run off most persnickety audiophiles

Summary Let me be the first to say, whoever engineer at Sony who designed these speakers loves music, and I mean accurate music! Being a hard-core audiophile myself, I was sceptical of these speakers because of the price alone. But I thought to myself, I never judged a book by it's cover, and I never pre-judge anything or anybody because of their "reputation" or "name". And I'm so glad I did! I have heard and sold everything from Definitive Technology to Martin Logan's, and beleive you me, if you have these baby's hooked up to a decent amplifier (ATI) or better in my opinion, you will be one happy being! By the way I am not a Sony rep or anything like that, but after hearing these damn speakers, I wish I worked for them so I could get their reference SACD player at a discount, and hook it up to these suckers! For anyone looking for a true, and I mean TRUE Full Bandwidth speaker for a decent price,..............LOOK NO FURTHER!!! Highly Recommended with no prejudices!

  • "Great Sound at a Great Price"
    on by flipicaneze

Pros Visually appealing. Very full spectrum.

Cons Why they pack such puny wires is beyond me. These will make you think twice about playing MP3's ever again. Just a little boomy.

Summary I have these hooked up to a Sony STR-DA5300ES and previously had a pair of Sony SS-B3000's hooked up to them which sounded fine but I wanted BIGGER. I was dreaming of having a Klipsch system but I just can't afford it. After reading all the reviews and loving the SS-B3000's I figured why not give them a shot.

First impression after removing from carton was "should I had bought this large of a speaker?". After all I live in an apartment. I figured oh well and continued to move things around to make room. After hooking them up I started accessing my computer through my PS3 for music. I discovered that most MP3 flaws are definitely much more defined with these speakers. I started playing some real CD's and my own rips and they sounded fine, in fact better then ever. I did notice some boominess and ended up turning down the bass way down to equalize the sound. Other then that the sound and looks are just fantastic and I look forward to buying myself more Sony speakers.

After some good adjustments and long term listening, I felt I needed to add on to the boominess complaint.

I do like the boominess, but because of the apartment thing, I didn't want the next door neighbors to complain. So far they haven't so the boominess is not groundshaking, but very audible.
