Pros The Nest Wifi access service is Free!
Cons Nest does not work with the more advanced air conditioners, Specifically, The two stage air conditioners that can switch from a 3 ton to 5 ton based on demand.
Nest does work for the two stage heating furnaces
Summary Nest did to thermostats what the iPhone did to smart phone market. Advance the whole technology 3-4 generations past anything else that is out there.
Free Wifi access, unlike other Wifi home gadgets that make you buy a subscription service, like the Link
$8.99 Monthly Subscription for Schlage LiNK locks. The Wifi access is free for the life of the product. Or the Craftsman Assure link that charges $20 a year. These old school companies do not get it, when you buy a device like the Nest, the Wifi service should be free.
For older people the Nest is very easy to read the large back lit numbers that turn on automatically with the proximity sensor as you approach the thermostat. The Nest then turns the back lit light automatically off when you walk away. If you go on vacation, It will detect if you are not around and automatically go into energy saving vacation mode all by itself.
I use my iPhone as an alarm clock so it is right by my bed at night. Every once in a while I will wake up in the middle of the night, either being too hot or cold. It is so marvelous that I can change the thermostat from my iphone so that I can go back to sleep. Zzzzzzzzz
Pros -Attempts to learn your schedule
-It gets updates from the web
-Remote Control via web or mobile app
Cons -No 2 week programming (I have a strange schedule)
-Learning often overrides manual adjustments
-It figures out time to temp, but they don't use that to it's full potential.
Summary I've been happy with my Nest so far. The learning apabilities and remote programming are invaluable. The auto-away feature is great too. This thing works and looks excellent. They have updated it since I got it with new features and that is something I can't get with my old thermostat. I work every other Wednesday so a 2 week schudule option would be very helpful to me. I use the iPhone app all the time. It is nice to turn up the heat a few minutes before I head home from work. The time to temp just tells you how long it will take to heat up or cool down to the desired temp. I thought that information would be used to get to a certain temp by a pregrammed time. For example if I wanted the temp up when I get home from work at 8, it would start heating up at 7:30 or something to make it closer to the target when I arrive.
Pros It was relatively easy to install. It's very easy to use. I can make settings changes from my iPhone. The most important thing is that it does save me money. I'm excited with the last update that could save me up to 30% on my cooling costs.
Cons None really. It took a while to connect to my wireless router but once it did, everything went smoothly.
Summary Like my pro's comments stated, I really like the Nest. It is learning our household routine and the light / motion sensor activates auto-away to save me money. I was on my way home from vacation last month and about 30 minutes from home I checked my Nest on my iPhone and realized that the house was hot because it was unseasonably warm and the A/C was off. I turned on the A/C from the phone and our house was comfortable when we arrived. They just updated the Nest last week with a new range setting to keep your house temp within a defined temperature range which is nice. I'm looking more forward to see how much my Nest saves me on my summer cooling bill. It's been so unseasonably warm here in Ky this winter that it's been hard to determine how much the Nest has saved.
Pros What is interesting about this product is that it's early in its life cycle. This means is that because of its ability to be updated via a wireless network as it sits on your wall, this product will become more feature rich as it matures.
Cons Yes, it isn't cheap but early adopters of technology normally bear the costs of new products.
Summary While I have had intelligent thermostats before, this is the first one that really plays to the ease of installation and programming of a common person. Obviously you need to understand some technology concepts and will need to have Internet service and a wireless access point in your home. That in itself will take this product out of consideration to some individuals. In my case the energy savings will not be as great since I was one who fully used the setback features that were in my old thermostat. What I find though is that the the functionality is so much easier and faster to use. Combine that with a thermostat that can auto detect when you aren't in your home and make adjustments in the thermostat to save energy, and the ability to use an app on your Apple or Android phones or tablets makes this a winner in my circle.

Pros looks great, super easy to install, access from phone, ipad or computer is fantastic
Cons Not really anything. would be nice if it was cheaper but I do think its worth the price. Any more expensive and I likely would not have gotten it. Sticks out from the wall a little more than I would like but still looks way better than old thermo.
Summary this thing is great. Gets lots of compliments whenever anyone comes over to the house. I would definitely buy again
